Job summary

Carmichael International Service in Monterey Park, CA is seeking a Senior Programmer to develop and maintain IBM iSeries applications, design system integrations, and support EDI transactions with clients, third-party logistics providers, and partners.

The ideal candidate has extensive IBM iSeries programming, RPG development, SQL, and EDI processing experience, plus strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to ensure reliable data exchange and system performance across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of RPG LE, RPG Free, SQL and CLLE experience.
• Extensive IBM iSeries programming and application development.
• Experience with EDI transactions and ANSI X12 standards.
• Strong system analysis, troubleshooting and data exchange skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement EDI integrations with clients, third-party logistics providers, and other business partners.
• Monitor daily EDI transactions, system processes, and performance to ensure reliable operations.
• Provide production support for EDI systems and partner integrations, collaborating with internal and external resources to resolve issues.
• Extract data from databases and convert RPG data into XML, Excel, and CSV formats.
• Work with file transfer protocols, including HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, and AS2.
• Test system changes and enhancements before moving them into production.
• Document system changes, updates, enhancements, and technical processes.
• Troubleshoot software issues, identify root causes of processing failures, and implement appropriate solutions.
• Collaborate with vendors and technical specialists to investigate and resolve system faults.
• Provide technical guidance and IT Help Desk support to employees and clients as needed.
• Support system reliability and participate in on‑call support, including occasional overtime as required.

Location: Monterey Park, CA

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Programmer to join the Information Systems & Technology department at Carmichael International Service. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining IBM iSeries applications, designing system integrations, and supporting Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions between clients, third-party logistics providers, and other business partners.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IBM iSeries programming, RPG development, SQL, and EDI transaction processing. This position requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues while ensuring reliable data exchange and system performance.

The Senior Programmer will work closely with internal teams, clients, vendors, and external technical resources to implement system enhancements, resolve production issues, and support the company's technology operations.

What You’ll Do

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related field preferred.
• Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience

• 10+ years of current experience developing applications using RPG LE, RPG Free, SQL, and CLLE.

• Extensive experience with IBM iSeries programming and application development.

• Experience with EDI transactions and ANSI X12 standards.

• Experience working with IBM iSeries architecture, system security, and technical operating standards.

Skills & Abilities

• Proficiency in RPG, RPG IV, ILE, RPG LE, RPG Free, SQL, and CLLE.

• Technical experience with OS/400, CL, Java, MQ, and web services.

• Knowledge of IBM iSeries architecture, security, development best practices, and modern development technologies.

• Ability to analyze business requirements and translate user needs into effective and efficient applications.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to identify root causes of system failures and resolve technical issues.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, vendors, and external technical resources.

• Ability to manage competing priorities and provide technical support as needed.
