Job description

Who we are at Osmo:

Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory.

Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including fragrance, manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone.

We're headquartered in Elizabeth, NJ, with an additional office in Somerville, MA. We provide complimentary shuttle service from Brooklyn and Newark, NJ.

Osmo is seeking an experienced regulatory professional to own the interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements for fragrance ingredients and fragrance oils across global markets. This role operates with significant independence, resolving complex and novel compliance questions and advising cross-functional teams on regulatory risk before it becomes a blocker.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret and implement regulatory requirements for fragrance ingredients and finished products across global markets (EU, US, UK, and key APAC/LATAM jurisdictions), spanning IFRA, REACH, EU Cosmetic Regulation, and FDA/MoCRA, and other applicable frameworks — exercising independent judgment on ambiguous or novel questions.

  • Drive compliance with IFRA standards, determining when and how formulations must change ahead of restrictions and amendments — not just in response to them.

  • Lead regulatory database and documentation strategy, setting the standards for accuracy and structure that others follow.

  • Support Perfumery, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, and Commercial as the regulatory authority in product development decisions.

  • Conduct regulatory risk assessments on raw materials, formulations, and finished products, surfacing compliance issues proactively.

  • Support Product Stewardship & Regulatory lead for customer-facing compliance inquiries, including judgment calls on what documentation satisfies customer-specific requirements.

  • Track emerging global regulatory trends and translate them into concrete business recommendations ahead of formal rule changes.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Regulatory Affairs, Toxicology, or a related field with 8+ years in regulatory affairs, within the fragrance industry. (Fragrance experience required.)

  • Demonstrated global/multi-market regulatory experience — you have owned compliance across more than one major jurisdiction (e.g., EU and US), not a single home market. (Global experience required.)

  • Deep working knowledge of IFRA standards, REACH, EU Cosmetic Regulation (1223/2009), and other relevant global regulations — with the judgment to apply them where clear precedent doesn't exist.

  • Strong communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to advise cross-functional stakeholders and influence decisions on regulatory risk.

  • Familiarity with fragrance formulation and raw materials.

Ways to Stand Out:
  • Experience building or restructuring a regulatory function, not just operating within one

  • Experience acting as regulatory advisor during due diligence or audits

We are committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining an incredible team optimized for a diversity of thought, background, and approaches.
For all Full-Time Employees, compensation is just one component of Osmo’s total rewards approach, which is designed to support the well-being, growth, and long-term success of our team members.
