The Senior Product Manager is a skilled technical leader responsible for guiding and managing a product portfolio throughout its life cycle. They drive successful product launches, develop effective go-to-market strategies, design and implement promotional activities to drive sales growth, and equip the global sales team with the training they need to succeed. The Senior Product Manager makes informed decisions on product direction, market positioning, and pricing, while creating clear, impactful marketing content for use across multiple channels. They also prepare presentations and reports that keep stakeholders aligned on the progress of both new and existing products. Success in this role requires curiosity, strong technical understanding, clear communication, and strong writing skills. The Senior Product Manager brings clarity, structure, and momentum to a strategically important product area that shapes our business.

The Senior Product Manager role is office-based.

Approximately 15% travel may be required.

How you will make an impact:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Product Manager to join our growing Product Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing Takara Bio’s Viral Delivery portfolio, which includes retroviral, lentiviral, adenoviral, and adeno‑associated (AAV) tools and technologies and RetroNectin. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge and hands‑on experience with cell and gene therapy workflows and CAR‑T therapies. This includes performing these workflows during graduate and/or postdoctoral training and having prior product management experience at a life science company focused on cell and gene therapy applications. In this role, you will demonstrate a creative approach to drive results and build relationships with colleagues in operations, R&D, sales, and marketing. Ideally, this candidate will also have experience managing and mentoring junior team members. In summary, this is an ideal role for someone with substantial product management experience to take ownership of a highly innovative, strategically important product portfolio with immense growth potential and deliver high‑quality results to drive the business’s success.

What will you do:
  • Manage a portfolio of viral delivery products and ensure their commercial success.
  • Develop and implement the annual tactical marketing plan to grow sales.
  • Conduct outbound marketing activities to advertise our product portfolio and expertise to target customers using a combination of email, search engine, and social media marketing platforms.
  • Plan and run integrated marketing campaigns, analyze their effectiveness, and present conclusions to stakeholders.
  • Partner with the R&D team on key product life cycle decisions, including new product launches, discontinuations, or product improvements.
  • Independently develop a portfolio of sales support tools that includes, but is not limited to, customer‑facing presentations, battle and cue cards, testimonials, and citations.
  • Gain voice of customer information from surveys and customer discovery calls.
  • Use voice of customer data from the strategy team to develop web content and other tools that communicate the value proposition directly to customers.
  • Work closely with Sales to fill the sales funnel and get regular and complete feedback from customers.
  • Organize and lead regular tactical marketing meetings to track sales and deliver against product budget.
  • Train junior members on the essential functions of product management.
  • May have supervisory responsibilities for junior members of the Product Management team.
How will you get here?
  • Requires a Ph.D. in biological sciences or related discipline; M.S. will be considered.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years postgraduate laboratory experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years of Product Management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Product Management functions, with hands‑on experience managing viral delivery products.
  • Advanced proficiency in presenting, written, and verbal communication skills is required.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be detail‑oriented and have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team is required.
  • Independence to manage work and lead projects.
  • Ability to assist and train junior members of the team.
