Job description

Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

Sr. Product Manager, Payments

You’ll own Mudflap’s payments platform end-to-end, shaping how money moves through the product and driving authorization rates, reliability, and spend across card usage. The focus is on improving transaction flows, controls, and performance while exploring new ways payments and fintech capabilities can create differentiated value for fleets and drivers.

Success in this role requires strong product judgment, a deep understanding of payment systems and emerging fintech trends, and the ability to navigate tradeoffs like risk versus conversion. It combines strategic thinking with hands‑on execution, using transaction‑level data and customer insight to identify high‑impact opportunities and continuously evolve the payments experience.

In this role, you will:
  • Own Mudflap’s payments platform end-to-end, including card, transaction flows, and partner integrations, with a focus on driving volume, reliability, and margin.

  • Identify and execute on high-impact opportunities to improve authorization rates, transaction success, and spend per user.

  • Develop a deep understanding of payment systems and stay current on fintech trends to inform product direction and unlock new capabilities.

  • Drive product decisions using transaction-level data, customer insight, and strong product judgment.

  • Partner cross-functionally to build scalable, high-reliability systems that power every transaction with accuracy and trust.

  • Own key product surfaces such as card controls, transaction visibility, and pricing logic.

  • Manage external partners including networks and processors to expand acceptance, improve economics, and shape the payments roadmap.

  • Define and track core payments metrics, and iterate quickly while maintaining a high bar for correctness in a high-stakes domain.

  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis and improve the payments experience.

What we look for:
  • 5+ years of product management experience with ownership of high-impact, customer-facing or platform products.

  • Experience working on payments, fintech, or transaction-heavy systems (e.g. cards, billing, risk, or financial infrastructure).

  • Strong product judgment with the ability to identify high-leverage opportunities that drive volume, reliability, or margin.

  • Comfort working with data, including transaction-level analysis, funnel drop-offs, and system performance metrics.

  • Ability to navigate complex systems and tradeoffs (e.g. risk vs. conversion, speed vs. accuracy, flexibility vs. control).

  • Track record of shipping high-quality products in cross-functional environments involving engineering, finance, risk, and operations.

  • Strong execution skills, with the ability to break down ambiguous problems into actionable plans and deliver results.

  • Clear and direct communication, with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Experience working with external partners (e.g. processors, networks, or enterprise partners) is a plus.

  • Hands‑on experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis, decision-making, or product development.

What we offer:
  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup

  • Multiple health benefit options

  • Responsible Time Off

  • 401(k) matching

  • Commuter benefits to ease your travel

  • Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled

  • Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)
