Job summary

Avalara, Inc. in Seattle is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own the MyLodgeTax product end-to-end, under the Micro and Emerging Business team.

You will drive strategy, prioritize what to build, and measure outcomes to help small hosts stay compliant with lodging tax rules. You will partner with engineering, UX, and business development to accelerate self-serve adoption, automate manual workflows, and deliver a scalable, AI-enabled solution.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of product management experience, including owning a product or major product area end-to-end.
• A proven track record of shipping self-serve or product-led experiences and successfully moving conversion, activation, or retention metrics.
• Experience automating complex, rules-heavy, or manual operational workflows through product solutions.
• Strong comfort with data: defining metrics, running experiments, and reading funnels and cohorts.
• Exceptional technical fluency, clear communication skills, and the judgment to make smart trade-offs with incomplete information.
• A forward-looking, AI bar-raising mindset, with experience or a strong desire to leverage AI to automate document-heavy or rules-based processes, ensuring we are building innovative and scalable solutions.
• Bonus: Knowledge of tax, compliance, government filings, or other regulated workflows.
• Bonus: Experience working in hospitality, short-term rentals, property management technology, or building for SMB/microbusiness customers.

Responsibilities

• Own the MyLodgeTax product vision, strategy, and roadmap, deciding what to build, what not to build, and rigorously measuring outcomes.
• Make the self-serve journey effortless from first visit to signup, checkout, onboarding, and first successful filing.
• Partner with the registration operations team to identify where manual work lives, and lead the product and engineering work to automate it, starting with the jurisdictions and steps that matter most.
• Work with Business Development and Growth to make partner experiences, such as property management systems and rental platforms, easy to discover, simple to activate, and measurable.
• Work daily with a dedicated front-end pod, the MyLodgeTax engineering team, and a senior UX designer, shipping on weekly release cycles built on Avalara's shared tax platform.
• Collaborate with fellow product managers on DAVO and e-commerce to build a shared self-serve and lifecycle experience across the portfolio.

What You'll Do

Avalara builds the software that makes tax compliance automatic for businesses of all sizes, and our Micro and Emerging Business team is dedicated to helping small businesses thrive. Short-term rental hosts face a complex, ever-changing patchwork of state, county, and city lodging tax rules, often for a single property. MyLodgeTax takes that burden off their plate by registering hosts with the right jurisdictions, filing their returns, and keeping them compliant. As a Senior Product Manager, you will own the MyLodgeTax product end-to-end. You are joining an established business with real customers and revenue, and you will play a critical role in making our solutions faster, simpler, and more self-serve. This role is on the Micro and Emerging Business team, reports to the Head of Product, Micro and Emerging Business, and is based out of our Seattle office. #LI-Remote
