Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Product Engineer III to provide technical leadership for turbocharger product development from concept through production and field support. You will own mechanical design activities, drive 3D CAD/PLM work, and coordinate testing and validation to meet performance and quality targets.

The role emphasizes collaboration with manufacturing, quality, testing, suppliers, and customers, with opportunities to mentor engineers and lead design validation, DFMEAs, and engineering

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least five years of professional mechanical or product engineering experience.
  • Experience owning the design and release of mechanical components or assemblies.
  • Experience taking a product from concept through validation, production release, and launch.
  • Proficiency with a 3D CAD platform such as Creo, NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or a comparable system.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanical design and product engineering.
  • Ability to perform and interpret GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience with design validation processes and documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, testing, suppliers, and customers.

  • Coordinate product testing activities and interpret validation results to confirm that designs meet performance, durability, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Lead root cause investigations involving design, testing, manufacturing, supplier, or field-performance issues.
  • Implement corrective actions and design improvements through structured engineering change processes.
  • Manage engineering documentation, including bills of material, drawings, specifications, and product release packages.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, testing, suppliers, customers, and other engineering groups to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Support tooling kickoff, production launch, and resolution of manufacturing or product-performance concerns.
  • Serve as a technical resource for less-experienced engineers and help guide engineering decisions across assigned programs.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience owning the design and release of mechanical components or assemblies.

  • Proven experience taking a product from concept through validation, production release, and launch.

  • Proficiency with a 3D CAD platform such as Creo, NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or a comparable system.

  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanical design and product engineering.

  • Ability to perform and interpret GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Experience with design validation processes and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications


  • Experience in new product development for rotating mechanical products such as engines, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, automotive components, compressors, pumps, transmissions, or hydraulic systems.

  • Experience in mechanical development and mechanical design for complex assemblies.

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems for managing engineering data and releases.

  • Experience leading DFMEAs, DVP&R creation, and structured engineering change processes.

  • Ability to mentor and support less-experienced engineers.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience leading root cause investigations.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical reports and collaborating with stakeholders.



Work Environment

This is an on-site position located in Shelbyville, IL, working primarily in an engineering and manufacturing environment focused on turbocharger product development. Typical hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility. The role involves regular use of 3D CAD and product lifecycle management systems, collaboration with manufacturing and testing facilities, and interaction with suppliers and customers. The organization is in growth mode and has consistently expanded over the past five years. Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.29 - $67.31/hr.


Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
