Citi has a significant presence in Australia, and our Sydney office is a key hub for our operations in the region.

Team/Role Overview

The Senior Product Development Manager for Complex Assets is a senior strategic professional responsible for leading the technical strategy, execution, and delivery for complex financial instruments. This individual closely follows the latest industry and technology trends, adapting them to shape the technical roadmap and architecture within the Complex Assets domain.

Accountable for significant direct business results and providing authoritative advice on technical strategy, this role requires excellent communication and diplomacy skills to negotiate internally, guide, and influence others at a senior level. The position includes responsibility for staff management, including resource management and allocation of work for the team.

The role requires a deep hands-on working knowledge of Complex Assets—including OTC derivatives, Exchange Traded Derivatives, and Portfolio Swaps—from a technology, operations, and solution delivery perspective. This role will be responsible for the technical realization of the product vision, managing the end-to-end product development lifecycle from requirements definition through to successful implementation, in close coordination with Product Management, Operations, and Technology partners.

What you’ll do
  • Partner with Product Management to create a product vision and own the corresponding technical strategy and architectural roadmap to deliver it.
  • Lead the end-to-end product development lifecycle, scoping product releases, tracking priorities, and ensuring the delivery of new products, features, and functionality.
  • Conceptualize, plan, prioritize, and coordinate the design and delivery of products or features through to release, serving as a technical ambassador for the product.
  • Oversee the technical delivery for core products, focusing on solution design, platform build, testing, and implementation, and help the team prioritize, negotiate, and remove obstacles to achieve delivery goals.
  • Work in close coordination with Technology leaders, Business Managers, and senior stakeholders to fulfill delivery objectives, translating business needs into robust technical solutions.
  • Follow market, industry, and client trends, adapting them for application within Citi’s products and solutions platforms to drive technical innovation.
  • Manage and mentor a team of product development specialists, handling resource management, work allocation, and staff development.
  • Partner with senior business leaders and a widely distributed global user community to define and implement technical solutions that address client needs.
  • Focus on controls and governance, including performing Need-to-Know based security and access reviews, Access Approvals, controls testing, and documentation.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business and architectural decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets. This includes driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

What we’ll need from you

  • 10+ years of experience in the Complex Assets/Derivatives industry, ideally in a senior Product Development, Technology, or Solution Architecture capacity within financial services.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering in a large, complex business environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity with strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to proactively seek and develop new opportunities.
  • Deep and technical understanding of multi-asset class OTC derivatives, including their lifecycle events, with consideration for the architectural and operational solutions required for Fund Accounting and Middle Office services.
  • Solid understanding of fund accounting principles as they apply to complex financial instruments and their lifecycle events.
  • Proven knowledge of Portfolio Swaps and Exchange Traded Derivatives from a systems and processing perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience translating business requirements into functional specifications and technical designs for financial instruments.
  • Excellent analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to bring diverse groups and perspectives to work against a common goal.
  • Experience managing development budgets and resources, with thorough financial acumen.
  • Ability to establish and maintain senior client and stakeholder relationships, working across multiple facets of the business.
  • Proven track record as a change agent, with the ability to encourage and embrace innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Project Management skills with experience leading large, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and adapt to unexpected changes in requirements.
  • Self-aware with the ability to adapt to various situations and rapidly assimilate and report on complex information while creating a future vision.
