Role Overview

The individual in this role will drive the mechanical design within the product development group. As a Senior Engineer, this individual will expand the capabilities of the team while building trust and relationships with internal and external partners. The team is small and the environment can feel like a start‑up within a large company. There is flexibility to work from home as needed within reason, but regular presence in the office is essential for knowledge-sharing, part inspections, and prototyping. Travel, domestic and international, is another essential part of the job, often reaching an estimated 15% of work time.

Responsibilities
  • Developing mechanical architectures from the ground up
  • Technical ownership of the overall system, sub‑system(s), or individual components
  • Leading the interactions with partner teams like industrial design, program management, operations, quality, and manufacturing partners
  • Managing the detailed design, CAD database, design validation and issue tracking
  • Anticipating and responding to challenges in manufacturing
Skills
  • Strong foundation in the first principles of mechanical design and best practices
  • Independent and self‑motivated with outstanding communication skills
  • Eager to be engaged at all stages of product development, from early concept to sustaining
  • Experienced in building small consumer products in large volumes
  • Deep understanding of the product development process
  • Hands on capability in creative prototyping approaches to rapidly build low and high‑fidelity prototypes for design and functional assessment
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in direct ownership of mechanical design for high‑volume consumer products.
  • Experience in the video game industry is not required, but interest and passion for gaming experience, digital entertainment, consumer electronics, and technology is vital.
Benefits and Compensation

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job‑related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The estimated base pay range for this role is $193,300—$289,900 USD.

This role is eligible for SIE’s top‑tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and employee discounts for Sony products. The role also may be eligible for a bonus package.
