Job summary

Formlabs is seeking an experienced Mechatronics Engineer to join our cross-functional R&D team in Boston. You will help research, develop, and implement new products, turning ideas into prototypes and moving designs toward manufacturing.

You will collaborate with design, hardware, and software engineers, applying systems thinking, hands-on testing, and data-driven decisions to advance our 3D printing technology and deliver impactful products.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on mechanism and mechatronic product design experience.
• Cross-disciplinary hardware prototyping across mechanical, electrical, and software.
• Experience with sensors and actuators control.
• Strong analytical and data-driven decision making.
• Knowledge of plastics, metals, and adhesives properties.
• Testing with a hands-on focus and some simulation experience.
• Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques.
• Experience with statistical tolerance analysis for precision mechanical design.

The Job:

In this role, you will work cross‑functionally and have a pivotal role in the research, development, and implementation of new products. You will innovate new ways of doing things and work with the design teams to move 3d printing technology forward. This role requires systems thinking, the ability to research and test new ideas and convert them to functional prototypes, and finally partnering with design engineers to get a final design into manufacturing.

About You:

• 2+ years of hands‑on, mechanism and mechatronic product design experience, including contributing to the system architecture of a product
• Experience with cross‑disciplinary hardware prototyping, including mechanical, electrical, and software
• Experience working with and controlling sensors and actuators
• Strong analytical skills, data‑driven decision making
• Working knowledge in material properties of plastics, metals, and adhesives
• Testing and analysis experience with a focus on hands‑on testing, with some simulation experience
• Knowledge of high‑volume manufacturing techniques
• Experience with statistical tolerance analysis techniques for precision mechanical design

The annual base pay range for this role is:

$130,000—$250,000 USD
