Job summary

TAI in Tacoma, WA, seeks a Senior Process Engineer to lead planning, development, and delivery of process solutions for multiple complex projects. You’ll coordinate across disciplines and provide technical leadership through the lifecycle of industrial and manufacturing initiatives.

The role emphasizes strict code compliance, detailed PFDs/P&IDs, cost estimates, and mentoring CAD designers. A PE is preferred, with eight years of relevant facility design experience.

Qualifications

• Eight years of design experience for industrial facilities with project delivery responsibility.
• PE licensure preferred or ability to obtain PE.
• Experience preparing PFDs, P&IDs, piping drawings, BOMs, and equipment specs.
• Knowledge of ASME BPVC, API 521/620/650/2000, NFPA 30, and piping codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, development, and delivery of process engineering solutions for multiple complex projects.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities and ensure client requirements, codes, budget, and schedule adherence.
• Plan and perform detailed process design for complex projects.
• Review and develop engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
• Direct CAD designers and ensure quality of construction drawings.

Here’s a Glimpse Into Your Day To Day

• The Senior Process Engineer leads the planning, development, and delivery of process engineering solutions for multiple complex projects.
• Working with minimal administrative direction, this role provides technical leadership, coordinates multidisciplinary design activities, and helps ensure that project deliverables meet client requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, budget, and schedule expectations.
• Plan, organize, and perform detailed process design for multiple complex projects.
• Manage assigned engineering activities with minimal administrative direction from the Division Manager.
• Research and apply relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and critically review engineering studies, system analyses, and preliminary and detailed designs.
• Develop and review engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
• Direct and review the work of the project design team, monitor progress, and alert management to scope changes or opportunities for additional services.
• Coordinate the completion and quality of project documentation.
• Provide direction to CAD designers in the preparation of construction drawings.
• Interpret applicable codes and work independently with code officials and other design professionals when clarification, interpretation, or an exception is required.
• Coordinate process design requirements with other engineering disciplines.

You’ll Be a Perfect Fit If You Have

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• Professional Engineer licensure is preferred, or ability to obtain a PE
• Minimum of eight (8) years of design experience creating construction documents for industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities with significant expertise in at least one of the core industries served by TAI
• Experience preparing, reviewing and approving PFD’s, P&ID’s, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, bill of materials, equipment and piping specifications
• Working knowledge of manual and automatic valve types and application
• Working knowledge of control valve and flow meter sizing and selection
• Thorough understanding of process controls
• Thorough understanding of piping flexibility and stress analysis is preferred
• Working knowledge of ASME BPVC, Division 1
• Working knowledge of API standards – 521, 620, 650, 2000 preferred
• Working knowledge of piping codes - ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.5 and B31.8
• Working knowledge of NFPA fire codes (NFPA 30 mandatory)
• Working knowledge of pressure drop calculations for incompressible and compressible fluids
• Working knowledge of equipment and piping specifications, sizing pressure relief devices, sizing centrifugal and PD pumps and other process equipment
• Working knowledge of electrical area classification – NFPA 497, API RP 500
• Familiarity with IBC building code
• Familiarity with AISC structural code.

Compensation And Benefits

• Pay: $100,000-130,000 annually (depending upon experience).
• Eligible for overtime pay
