Senior Water & Wastewater Process Engineer / Project Manager
A growing engineering and consulting organisation is seeking an experienced water and wastewater process engineer to provide technical leadership on municipal and industrial projects. The role will involve leading process engineering activities from early project development through detailed design and delivery, while working closely with clients, project teams, and other technical disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of process designs for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Work on a range of projects involving treatment facilities, conveyance systems, industrial water and wastewater systems, and associated utilities.
- Take responsibility for process engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including defining requirements, developing design solutions, and supporting implementation.
- Manage technical scope and contribute to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Establish process design criteria, performance requirements, and project objectives.
- Act as a technical advisor to clients and participate in meetings, workshops, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings, and other design documentation.
- Coordinate process engineering activities with civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, and other project disciplines.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to less-experienced engineers and designers.
- Review project deliverables to ensure technical quality, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
- Support proposals, project pursuits, client development, and other business development activities.
- Work with regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders when required.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of the organisation's water and wastewater capabilities.
- Support alternative project delivery methods, including EPC and design-build projects.
- Travel to client sites, project locations, and other meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 7 years or more of relevant process engineering experience, or equivalent experience with an appropriate postgraduate qualification.
- Professional experience in water and/or wastewater process engineering.
- Demonstrated experience taking technical responsibility for significant engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, design practices, and applicable industry standards.
- Ability to develop practical, technically sound solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with standard engineering and Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience with municipal water or wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience with industrial water, wastewater, or utility systems.
- Experience with EPC, design-build, or other alternative project delivery methods.
- Experience leading process engineering activities on large or complex projects.
- Experience with process modelling or simulation software.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Existing relationships with water, wastewater, industrial, or governmental clients.
- Experience supporting proposals, client development, and technical business development.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineering staff.
