Job description

Audubon is seeking an accomplished Senior Process Engineer who thrives when trusted with meaningful responsibility. This role is well suited for a self‑directed engineer who takes ownership of outcomes, holds their own work to a high standard, and uses sound technical judgment to move complex projects forward. You will have the autonomy to lead process‑engineering work from early concepts through detailed design while collaborating with clients, project teams, designers, vendors, and other engineering disciplines. Your work will directly influence facility safety, operability, cost, schedule, and technical performance. The successful candidate will combine technical depth with practical execution skills. You should be comfortable making informed decisions, recognizing when additional input is needed, and taking responsibility for delivering complete, high‑quality work.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead process‑engineering activities for complex, multidisciplinary projects, from conceptual and front‑end development through detailed engineering and project execution.
  • Develop, review, and approve process design deliverables, including design basis, simulations, PFDs, P&IDs, calculations, equipment specifications, process data sheets, reports, and engineering design packages.
  • Establish process simulations and use engineering analysis to evaluate facility performance, operating scenarios, equipment requirements, and design alternatives.
  • Lead or manage P&ID development, ensuring that process requirements, controls, safeguarding, operability, and client standards are appropriately incorporated.
  • Independently plan and manage assigned scope, priorities, budgets, schedules, and resources, communicating risks early and requesting support when it will improve the project outcome.
  • Develop discipline‑specific man‑hour estimates, schedules, forecasts, and Total Installed Cost estimates based on project scope and execution requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, project management, engineering disciplines, designers, subcontractors, consultants, and equipment vendors.
  • Review vendor proposals and drawings for technical compliance and support equipment selection, purchasing, inspection, and acceptance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, checking, and constructive feedback to other engineers while supporting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal design guidelines, specifications, tools, and quality‑control procedures.
  • Build trusted client relationships through responsive communication, reliable execution, and consistently high‑quality technical work.

In this role, success means taking genuine ownership of your work and delivering designs that are technically sound, practical, safe, and complete. You will be trusted to anticipate issues, evaluate risk, communicate clearly, and recommend solutions before challenges affect project commitments.

You will have room to exercise independent judgment while working within a collaborative team where asking the right question or seeking a second perspective is recognized as a strength. The strongest candidates are motivated by meeting the quality of the work itself while meeting deadlines within budget. They take pride in leaving projects better than they found them.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities

All employees are responsible for supporting Audubon Companies’ Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. This includes:

  • Performing duties in a manner that protects personal and team health and safety
  • Participating in required HSE training, meetings, and reporting activities
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions
  • Following safe work practices and complying with applicable regulatory requirements
Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
  • At least 12 years of process‑engineering experience within an EPC environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process scope on multidisciplinary projects, including projects with a Total Installed Cost greater than $100 million.
  • At least 10 years of combined experience from the following industries:
    • Cryogenic Gas Separation
    • LNG
  • Experience developing process simulations from initial model setup through analysis of results.
  • Experience leading P&ID development and executing detailed‑engineering projects.
  • Ability to independently organize work, establish priorities, and meet project budget and schedule commitments.
  • Ability to evaluate project risks, develop practical solutions, and communicate recommendations before critical deadlines.
  • Ability to make timely, well‑informed decisions while recognizing personal or technical limitations and seeking additional expertise when appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and client‑facing teams.
  • Preferred:
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineering License.
    • Field, construction, commissioning, or startup experience.
    • Experience with Aspen HYSYS, Honeywell UniSim Design, and/or ProMax.
    • Working knowledge of the full project lifecycle, from conceptual and FEL‑1 development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and facility startup.
    • Working knowledge of applicable process‑industry codes, including API standards, and established process‑design practices.
