Job summary

IPS is seeking a Senior Process Engineer in Burlington, MA to design and implement manufacturing processes and supporting utilities across pilot to production scales.

The role requires strong process design, P&ID development (AutoCAD), CGMP knowledge, and collaboration with IPS design teams. Travel 5-20% to client sites may be required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years engineering experience with 5+ years in process design, ideally in pharma/biotech.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Knowledge of cGMPs affecting process design and equipment specs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Process Engineer with conceptual design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Material and Energy Balances.
• Estimate utility requirements for new processes and design utilities systems.
• Generate P&IDs with controls strategy and CIP/SIP where appropriate (prefer AutoCAD).
• Produce P&IDs for critical utility systems like WFI, USP purified water, and Clean Steam.
• Conduct engineering studies to expand or automate facilities with limited supervision.
• Develop specifications and data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
• Contribute to company tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
• Own process-related aspects of a project and support the design team.
• Maintain strong client and IPS team relationships.
• Handle special projects as assigned.

We are looking for a talented Senior Process Engineer to join our dedicated team at our office in Burlington, Massachusetts.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes and supporting utilities on a scale that can range from a developmental pilot plant to full commercial production.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Process Engineer with conceptual design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Material and Energy Balances.
• Estimate utility requirements for new manufacturing processes, design utilities generation and distribution systems.
• Generate Process P&IDs (preferably on AutoCAD) that include controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions, if appropriate.
• Generate P&IDs for critical utility systems, such as WFI, USP Purified water, and Clean Steam.
• Perform engineering studies for expanding, improving, or automating existing facilities with limited supervision.
• Produce specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
• Make use of and participate in the development of company design and production tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
• Assume ownership of the process-related aspects of a portion of a large project or an entire small project, and provide technical support to the design team.
• Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team.
• Special projects as assigned.

The salary offered for this role is between $113,000 and $150,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience and 5+ years in process design, preferably in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries.
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Knowledge of cGMPs as they affect process design and equipment specification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Has process design and operations experience in pharmaceutical facilities, which could include Biologic, Vaccine, API (organic synthesis), oral (OSD), and parenteral (Aseptic) drug products.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
• Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

• Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
• Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.

Travel

• This position will require 5-20% travel or as required by the assigned project.
• You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
• Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client's location is possible, depending on the assignment.

• You will visit Client sites and must adhere to stated safety rules.
• Must have access to reliable transportation.
• Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.

• This position is a safety-sensitive position.
• The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.
