Job summary

Chesterfield County is seeking a Case Manager for Community Corrections Services to supervise adults under court-ordered probation, including domestic violence-related cases, and to coordinate with partners such as law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim services. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or Social Work and at least three years of relevant experience.

Strong caseload management, documentation, and courtroom testimony are essential;

• Three years of relevant experience in human services/criminal justice field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervision of adults referred from Chesterfield Juvenile Domestic Relations Court for domestic related offenses including family and/or household violence.
• Supervise individuals under court ordered probation supervision who are required to complete domestic violence intervention programming and/or may have substance use disorder, mental health diagnoses, etc.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with court ordered supervision conditions and provide notifications to the court of non-compliance.
• Provide extensive and accurate written notification to Judges, Commonwealth’s Attorneys and defense attorneys. Testify in court as required.
• Work in partnership with professionals comprising Chesterfield County’s Coordinated Community Response to domestic violence (CCR), including law enforcement, prosecutors, victim service providers, Domestic Violence Intervention Program providers, and system-based service providers (DSS, CPS/APS, Mental Health Support Services).
• Encourage clients to engage with Peer Recovery Specialists.
• Perform drug and alcohol testing.
• Perform Administrative duties including quality assurance functions associated with supervision.
• Aiding in reviewing and correcting court correspondence, facilitate meetings, mentor new staff, and aid in closure of cases.
• Perform special projects and other work as required.
• Expected to perform all functions of staff when necessary.

Who We Are:

Chesterfield Community Corrections Services provides supervision, case management and supportive services to individuals under pretrial and local probation supervision in Chesterfield County and the City of Colonial Heights. Our probation team is seeking a qualified candidate to provide case management and court ordered supervision to individuals referred for a variety of charges. The ideal candidate for the position is passionate about working with individuals, eager to collaborate with stakeholders, and comfortable with holding individuals accountable for adhering to court ordered conditions. This caseload at any time can range from 80-120 cases.

What You Do and How You Do It:

• Supervision of adults referred from Chesterfield Juvenile Domestic Relations Court for domestic related offenses including family and/or household violence. In addition, supervision of adults from Chesterfield Circuit and General District Courts whose offenses are domestic and/or sexual in nature.

Here’s What You Need:

• Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Social Work preferred. Threeyears of relevant experience in human services/criminal justice field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of criminal justice system and community supervision.
• Caseload management skills and knowledge of legal and evidence-based practices.
• Computer competency to include operating a personal computer, work issued cell phone and related software, and other standard office equipment.
• Accurate and timely documentation in multiple databases.
• Completion of Core Skills through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.
• VCIN certification (to be provided upon hiring).

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security” policy and therefore requires passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
