Job summary

Alan Biller and Associates is seeking a Senior Private Equity Analyst to join our Research Team in California. You will conduct due diligence on private equity and private debt funds, support investment decision materials, and attend committee meetings.

Responsibilities include underwriting managers, performing data analysis, on-site visits, and preparing clear presentations for internal committees and clients. Five+ years of relevant experience and CFA/CAIA credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• Masters degree and CFA; CAIA is a plus.
• Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analysis of private markets.
• Strong written and verbal communication for investment memos.

Responsibilities

• Assist in underwriting PE and private debt managers.
• Conduct due diligence incl. data analysis, calls, site visits.
• Prepare materials for investment decisions and committee meetings.
• Present findings and recommendations to committees and clients.
• Travel approximately 20% of time.

Job Description

As a member of the Research Team, Senior Private Equity Analysts conduct due diligence and oversight on Private Equity and Private Debt investment funds and prepare materials for investment decisions. They sit in on our Investment and Portfolio Review Committees and are actively involved in investment decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in underwriting new and established Private Equity investment managers with superior skills and competitive advantages.
• Work on restructuring existing portfolios including secondary sales.
• Conduct due diligence including data analysis, manager conference calls, on-site visits, background, regulatory and reference checks, and documentation.
• Evaluate the drivers of risk, return, strategy robustness and quartile ranking.
• Willingness to take initiative, exercise independent judgment and to act decisively while working collaboratively with other Analysts and Consultants.
• Exhibit self-sufficiency, organizational abilities, good team communications and a strong work ethic.
• Make clear presentations and recommendations to internal committees and to non-technical clients.

Requirements:

• Must be able to work legally in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance or Business and CFA. CAIA a plus.
• Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing. Writing memos documenting our investment decisions is a key part of this role.

• Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytic skills assessing private market strategies and opportunities.
• Familiarity with top tier private equity and private debt managers. Manage ongoing relationships with existing and potential investment managers.
• Capable of multi-tasking with strong attention to detail and promoting team-oriented attitude with desire to work on various projects.

• Attend client meetings with our client-facing team as needed.
• Five years (or more) of relevant experience and a minimum of three years in Private Equity and Private Debt manager research.
• Advanced Excel skills and financial information systems e.g., Preqin, HFR.
• Experience in portfolio analytics/attribution with Barclays Point, Factset or Bloomberg.
• Travel approximately 20% of the time.
