Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a leader in aerospace and defense, seeks a Principal Software Engineer for Solipsys in Fulton, MD. You will drive design and development of critical capabilities in an Agile setting, coordinating multiple engineers and delivering solutions for government and commercial customers.

Onsite role with exposure to GraphQL, REST, Java, C++, and modern web technologies. The ideal candidate has extensive OO experience, strong CS fundamentals, and is eligible for a U.S.

Qualifications

• Experience with OO programming in Java or C++.
• Full lifecycle software development experience.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems.
• STEM degree with 7–10+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 7+ years.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Solipsys is a wholly owned subsidiary of Collins Aerospace/RTX and is currently seeking a Principal Software Engineer who is enthusiastic, hardworking, and proactive in writing and developing code using programming languages and related technologies such as Java, C++, Angular, GraphQL, REST, KafKa, and Typescript (among many others). The successful candidate will work in an exciting environment, directly driving the design, architecture, and development of new software systems and products utilizing these technologies.

Solipsys is an industry leader in the development of command and control software systems and operates in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced business environment with both commercial and Government customers, including a mix of domestic and international pursuits and programs. This is an onsite role at our Fulton MD facility.

What You Will Do

• Drive the design, architecture, and development of critical capabilities in an active Agile environment.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to coordinate the activities of multiple engineers working on a program, ensuring successful technical execution and delivery of solutions for the customer.
• Proactive leadership skills – proven ability to recognize issues early and to lead and motivate teams by making smaller, decisive corrections to avoid larger problems.
• Adept at communicating (verbal and written) with all levels within and outside the company, ability to prepare and deliver presentations/summaries which appropriately address the intended audience.
• Work in a highly collaborate team environment to design, architect and innovate software solutions.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Relevant work experience in software development using object oriented programming languages such as Java or C++.
• Relevant work experience with full life cycle development including software requirements, design, development, debug and test.
• Strong computer science fundamentals: such as data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, information retrieval.
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Direct hands on individual experience with GraphQL, REST, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Postgresql, Docker, Kubernetes, Angular, Typescript, HTML/CSS, among many other programming languages and related technologies. Especially in driving the design and architecture of software applications and systems.
• Demonstrated skills with C++ related Technologies: Boost/STL/Standard C++ Library/etc .
• Experience developing, assessing and validating complex mathematical solutions such as track filters, track correlation algorithms, and weapon engagement algorithms, for sensors and/or C2 programs.
• Demonstrated experience developing software in a Linux environment
• Experience with Container Orchestration implementation such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift
• Experience with managing cyber security processes including vulnerability assessments.
• Experience developing system models, simulations, and complex algorithmic solutions, in addition to utilizing tools such as Matlab.

The salary range for this role is 145,600 USD - 276,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
