Job summary

IDEAYA Biosciences in South San Francisco seeks a Senior Principal Research Scientist to lead Protein Sciences programs, supervise a small team, and solve complex protein-production challenges across multiple drug-discovery projects.

You will master recombinant expression, purification, and characterization using bacterial and insect-cell systems, mentor staff, coordinate CROs, and collaborate with Bioassays, Biophysics, Structural Biology, and Data Science to drive program decisions.

Qualifications

• PhD with 9+ years of hands-on expertise in recombinant protein production.
• Experience developing and troubleshooting purification strategies for challenging proteins.
• Hands-on proficiency with SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, SEC-MALS, and SEC.
• Experience managing CROs or external partners and data review.
• Experience supervising researchers and mentoring staff.
• Excellent oral, graphical, and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with proteomics/chemistry biology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day Protein Sciences activities and priorities.
• Develop expression/purification strategies for complex proteins.
• Oversee construct design, testing, purification, and characterization.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality reagents for biochemical and biophysical assays.
• Coordinate CROs and cross-functional teams; communicate strategies to leadership.
