Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement enterprise-scale network architectures.
  • Lead engineering across LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, cloud networking, data center, and hybrid environments.
  • Develop network modernization and transformation strategies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Create detailed network design documentation, diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Architect and integrate network services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM).
  • Load balancing and VPN services coordination.
  • Implement security controls aligned with cybersecurity requirements.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and lead architecture reviews.
  • Lead large-scale infrastructure projects and coordinate with vendors.

Position Summary

The Senior Principal Network and Services Systems Engineer serves as a technical leader responsible for the architecture, design, integration, implementation, and sustainment of complex enterprise and mission-critical network infrastructures and service platforms. This role provides strategic technical guidance, leads engineering efforts, and ensures network and service solutions meet performance, security, reliability, and scalability requirements.

The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, customers, and leadership to deliver secure and resilient network and systems solutions supporting business and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Engineering
  • Design, develop, and implement enterprise-scale network architectures.
  • Lead engineering efforts involving LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, cloud networking, data center, and hybrid environments.
  • Develop network modernization and transformation strategies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Create detailed network design documentation, diagrams, and technical specifications.
Systems & Services Engineering

Architect and integrate network services, including:

  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • IPAM
Directory Services
  • Load Balancing
VPN Services
  • Authentication Services
  • Network Monitoring Platforms
  • Ensure interoperability across systems, applications, and infrastructure components.
  • Develop automation solutions to improve operational efficiency.
Security & Compliance
  • Ensure network and services architectures align with cybersecurity requirements.
  • Implement security controls and best practices based on industry frameworks.
  • Support security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and risk management activities.
  • Collaborate with Information Assurance, ISSO, and cybersecurity teams.
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for networking and infrastructure technologies.
  • Lead technical reviews, design reviews, and architecture boards.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Operations & Performance
  • Analyze network performance and capacity requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis for complex incidents.
  • Develop disaster recovery and continuity strategies.
  • Support high-availability and fault-tolerant architectures.
Project & Program Support
  • Lead large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and technical deliverables.
  • Support proposal development and technical solutioning efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, systems engineering, or infrastructure architecture.
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale networks.
