Job summary

Fanatics Betting & Gaming is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Strategic Engineering Group. You will set the technical North Star, drive cross-vertical initiatives, and shape how Fanatics scales its platform for years to come.

This is a role at the table-level, not a heads-down IC position. You will work with Product Engineering, Security, and Infrastructure IT to build, enhance, and support our platform, guiding teams through high-stakes distributed systems challenges and mentoring senior

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering; 10+ years at Senior Staff level or above.
• Experience leading multi-team programs spanning multiple quarters.
• Proven ability to identify business-critical problems and justify investments.
• Track record setting technical patterns adopted across teams.
• Mentoring Staff/Senior Staff engineers toward technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term architecture strategy for the event-driven platform.
• Drive cross-vertical initiatives and establish standard patterns for scaling systems.
• Escalation point for complex distributed systems issues; provide guidance.
• Mentor senior engineers and elevate technical leadership across teams.
• Define technical strategy with product/business leaders; build consensus on initiatives.
• Set standards for testing, observability, incident response, and resilience.
• Represent the org externally via talks, writing, and open-source contributions.
