Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a High-Risk Embedded Security Professional to serve as an Alternate Special Security Officer (ASSO). You will work with security teams, cyber and physical security staff, and government sponsors to oversee special security matters.

On any day, you may interpret laws for IC/DOE/DOD environments, advise management on security requirements, and support SCIFs, with data tracking and briefings. Must work onsite and hold DOE Q clearance with SCI access.

Qualifications

• Five years of related security experience or equivalent (AS + 9).
• Active DOE Q (or equivalent) security clearance with SCI access eligibility, polygraph required.
• Master's degree in a relevant field is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Interpret federal laws, regulations, and other requirements for IC/DOE/DOD and other high-risk environments.
• Provide security guidance to management and recommend actions.
• Maintain current knowledge of security standards and procedures.
• Support one or more SCIFs.
• Track, trend and analyze security data.
• Conduct security briefings and maintain records.

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a High-Risk Embedded Security Professional to serve as an Alternate Special Security Officer (ASSO) to support and manage program security operations. The selected individual will work closely with other security team members; cyber security staff; FIE SSO; physical security SMEs; program management and technical staff, and government sponsors to provide guidance and oversight on special security matters.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Interpret federal laws, regulations, and other requirements for intelligence community (IC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), and other high-risk security environments.
• Interpret information and provide guidance of security requirements including advising management and recommending actions regarding issues.
• Maintain current knowledge of security standards.
• Support one or more Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs).
• Track, trend and analyze data.
• Conduct Security related briefings and maintain relevant records.
• Process and/or respond to reports, requests, and questions from members of the SCI community.
• Conduct inquiries into potential Incidents of Security Concern (IOSCs).
• Respond to security matters outside of normal working hours.
• Due to the nature of this role, this candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$104,000 - $201,000

• Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Security, Criminology, Cyber, IT, Political Science, Sociology or related) plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, OR equivalent (AS + 9).
• Active DOE Q (or equivalent) security clearance required to start, along with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI access, which requires polygraph testing.

• Understanding of various security-related DOE Orders, Intelligence Community Directives and/or Sandia policies.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
• Experience as an inquiry official.
• Experience as a derivative classifier.
• Demonstrated ability to properly handle classified or sensitive information.
• Active SCI access.

About Our Team

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) performs high impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community (IC). The CA FIE Special Security Operations Office protects the information of our customers by providing a secure environment that allows Sandia to deliver products and services that protect our nation's security. The CA FIE Special Security Operations Office is responsible for interpretation and oversight of security requirements, to include physical security, access controls, facility accreditation, incident investigation, and visitor control.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
