Job summary

New Balance is seeking a Principal Data Engineer II to lead enterprise data pipelines and reusable data products on the Global Data & Analytics team. The role focuses on governance, reliability, and practical AI to accelerate development and quality checks.

The position is hybrid, based in Brighton, MA, with a North American hybrid model and Work from Anywhere option. You will mentor engineers and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 11–13 years of experience in data warehouse and data engineering development.
• Proven ability to lead architecture and development of complex data pipelines across multiple source systems.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, data quality, observability, and secure engineering practices.
• Expert proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Deep experience with Snowflake data warehousing and Snowflake tools (Snowpark, Snowflake CoCo, Cortex AI Functions).
• Experience with Azure data integration services (Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Blob).
• Experience with dbt, GitHub, GitHub Actions, CI/CD and automated testing.
• Experience using AI coding agents to accelerate pipeline development and testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and development of reliable data pipelines across on-prem, cloud, batch, streaming, and event-driven sources.
• Unify batch, streaming, and event-driven processing into a cohesive cloud data architecture with monitoring and controls.
• Define requirements with stakeholders and model processes using data models and diagrams.
• Design and deliver reusable, well-governed data products across domains.
• Lead technical design reviews and guide decisions on scalability, security, and cost.
• Apply Snowflake CoCo and Cortex AI Functions to automate quality validation and reconciliation.
• Debug and optimize ETL/ELT processes for performance and reliability.
• Automate data delivery, strengthen CI/CD and testing practices for scalability.
• Document architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures; provide on-call support.
