Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a professional construction worker for the Facilities Technologist role. You will perform carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and structural tasks onsite, reading drawings and ensuring work meets specifications and codes.

Responsibilities

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking professional construction workers (job title: Facilities Technologist) with demonstrated skills and experience in performing construction activities involving carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and structural. You will use your reasoning abilities, self‑determination/drive, and strong customer service skills to perform your duties.

On any given day, you will be called on to:
  • Perform a variety of construction‑related functions
  • Read engineering drawings, blueprints, standards and specifications in order to install facility systems and components to specifications and code
  • Demolish, install, test, and repair facility structures, systems, and components
  • Understand and follow Universal Building Codes during construction
  • Use and maintain tools of the trade to perform work
  • Use mathematical skills to measure, mark, cut, and lay out material and erect or assemble systems
  • Perform general facility systems or equipment maintenance or repairs as required
  • Collaborate and work as a team with other workers to produce finished construction projects timely and efficiently
  • Follow all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment
  • Support operational capabilities within facilities, including construction safety, permitting, document control, space management, energy monitoring, and information technology applications
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable Sandia National Laboratories and industry regulatory and safety guidelines
  • Ensure all results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$76,000 - $146,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

About Our Team:

The Facilities Maintenance and Express Construction Department is dedicated to the comprehensive upkeep, enhancement, and development of our buildings, systems, infrastructure, and utilities. Our team delivers a full spectrum of services, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for electrical high and low voltage distribution, fire protection systems, lighting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

In addition, our skilled in‑house construction workforce, supported by trusted partner contractors and in‑house engineers, provides expert construction services encompassing installations, renovations, modifications, and demolitions.

Together, we are committed to meeting mission requirements through efficient, flexible, safe, and cost‑effective operations that ensure the reliability and continuous improvement of our facilities.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
