Job summary

Bob's Discount Furniture is seeking a Senior Pricing Analyst to own the analytical foundation behind pricing decisions across the enterprise. You will manage competitive price intelligence, the recurring analytics suite, and the strategy behind price architecture, promotions, and markdowns.

You will partner with Merchants, Merchandise Finance, and Marketing to defend recommendations and shape pricing strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 4-7 years of analytical experience in retail pricing, merchandising, planning, or finance.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including scenario modeling and large dataset handling.
  • Proficiency in SQL and ability to source, join, and validate data across systems.
  • Strong command of retail margin mechanics and factors influencing gross margin.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous situations and mentor less experienced analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Own competitive price intelligence and the pricing data set; translate into actionable recommendations.
  • Lead price point analysis and assess margin impact, elasticity, and historical performance.
  • Evaluate promotional effectiveness and advise on offers to repeat, reshape, or retire.
  • Own markdown analytics and monitor sell-through and margin recovery on clearance inventory.
  • Build pricing models and maintain scenario tools to quantify P&L impact.
  • Own pricing dashboards and data lineage; ensure data integrity across reporting systems.
  • Drive automation to reduce manual effort and move the team toward self-service reporting.
  • Lead complex ad hoc analyses for Merchants, Finance, and leadership with clear recommendations.
  • Govern price change execution and maintain accurate reflection across systems and channels.
  • Maintain pricing governance documentation and participate in cross-functional planning forums.
  • Guide junior analysts and set QA standards for pricing analytics.

The Senior Pricing Analyst owns the analytical foundation behind pricing decisions across the enterprise. This role owns competitive price intelligence, the recurring pricing analytics suite, and the analysis and recommendations behind price architecture, promotional strategy, and markdown decisions. Reporting into the Pricing organization, the Senior Analyst partners with Merchants, Merchandise Finance, and Marketing to develop and defend price point recommendations, evaluate promotional effectiveness, and shape markdown strategy. The role also sets analytical and control standards for pricing and provides technical guidance to less experienced analysts. This is a senior individual contributor role for an analytical professional who can move from data to recommendation independently, hold a point of view in front of senior stakeholders, and build deep expertise in retail pricing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pricing Analytics Own competitive price intelligence: own the competitive pricing data set and the methodology behind it; translate competitive position into actionable pricing recommendations for assigned categories
  • Lead price point analysis: build the analysis and the recommendation behind price architecture changes, including margin impact, elasticity read, price gap position, and historical performance at comparable price points
  • Evaluate promotional effectiveness: measure the incrementality and margin impact of promotional events; recommend which offers to repeat, reshape, or retire
  • Own markdown analytics: model markdown depth and timing scenarios; monitor sell-through and margin recovery on clearance and aged inventory and recommend corrective action
  • Build pricing models: develop and maintain the scenario tools that quantify the P&L impact of pricing decisions before they are made
  • Reporting & Data Management Own the pricing reporting suite: design, own, and continuously improve pricing dashboards and performance reporting, with consistent definitions and reliable data lineage
  • Own pricing data integrity: establish and enforce the standards that keep pricing data complete, accurate, and consistently defined across reporting and systems
  • Drive automation: lead the effort to automate recurring analysis, reduce manual effort, and move the team toward self-service reporting
  • Lead complex ad hoc analysis: scope, structure, and deliver the ambiguous, high-stakes analysis requested by Merchants, Finance, and executive leadership, and present it with a clear recommendation
  • Governance & Execution Govern price change execution: own the accuracy and control of price change files; validate accurate reflection across systems and channels and resolve exceptions at the root cause
  • Own pricing governance documentation: maintain a complete and auditable record of pricing decisions, approvals, and change history
  • Partner cross-functionally: serve as the pricing analytics point of contact for Merchants, Merchandise Finance, and Marketing, and represent pricing in cross-functional planning forums
  • Guide junior analysts: set methodology and QA standards for pricing analytics and review the work of less experienced analysts for accuracy and rigor

  • Accuracy & Control: Pricing reporting and price change files delivered with no material errors, supported by documented and repeatable controls
  • Automation: Measurable reduction in manual effort across recurring pricing analytics, with cadence maintained or improved
  • Commercial Impact: Analysis and recommendations that materially changed pricing decisions in multiple categories, with quantified margin impact
  • Influence: Recognized by Merchant, Finance, and Marketing partners as the trusted analytical authority on pricing
Required Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 4-7 years of analytical experience, with demonstrated depth in retail pricing, merchandising, planning, or finance
  • Advanced Excel skills, including scenario modeling, large dataset handling, and building tools other people rely on
  • Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to independently source, join, and validate data across systems
  • Strong command of retail margin mechanics and the levers that drive gross margin performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting recommendations to senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous situations and to mentor less experienced analysts
Preferred Competencies
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or comparable visualization tools, including dashboard design
  • Furniture, home, or big-ticket retail experience
  • Experience with pricing, promotion, or markdown optimization tools
  • Exposure to elasticity modeling, or to Expected Base Pay Not Including Potential Commissions, Incentive, Bonus, etc.
