Job summary

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, seeks a Senior Preclinical Interventionalist for its Plymouth, MN EP division. You will support development of diagnostic, imaging, and ablation catheters and EP capital equipment, executing preclinical studies, validating data, and advising on clinical workflows and risk assessments.

You will lead studies, mentor staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance next‑generation EP solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as a preclinical interventionalist, preferably with cardiac electrophysiology devices.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed, global environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence at multiple levels.
• Leadership ability to coach and mentor less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for EP product use during preclinical study execution.
• Train colleagues and physician customers in preclinical settings.
• Provide feedback on clinical workflows and product use to engineering teams.
• Support risk management documentation and regulatory submissions.
• Design and supervise bench and preclinical studies for concepts and filings.
• Coordinate empirical analyses and document results clearly.

The Opportunity This position works out of our Plymouth, MN division in the EP division in R&D.

As the Senior Preclinical Interventionalist, you will support our EP product development team focused on delivering the future in diagnostic, imaging, and ablation therapy catheters and EP capital equipment. This role will involve a range of responsibilities including but not limited to preclinical study execution, requirement development, testing and data analysis, validation testing, and serving as a consultant on clinical workflows and risk evaluation documentation.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for appropriate use of EP products during preclinical study execution.
• Train co-workers and physician customers in the preclinical environment.
• Provide feedback and insight on clinical workflows and clinical use of EP products to product teams
• Support development of risk management documentation.
• Design, conduct/supervise, and support bench and preclinical studies for product concept feasibility and formal regulatory submission.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct empirical and experimental analysis.
• Organize and analyze data from experiments or design builds and write reports on results.
• Conduct research and prepare research tasks.
• Document work suitable for technical papers and patents.
• Participate in project design reviews and project planning
• Track performance against plan.
• Develop plan in conjunction with technical supervisor.
• Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
• Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, biological sciences, medical/clinical science or equivalent experience.

• 5+ years' experience as a preclinical interventionalist, experience with cardiac electrophysiology devices preferred.
• Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
• Strong technical leadership skills including the ability to coach and mentor less experienced employees.
• Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
• Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in timely manner.
• Ability to travel 10 — 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as a study director in a preclinical setting, preferably with cardiac electrophysiology devices.
• Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
• Medical device industry experience
• Ability to plan, execute, analyze, and document individual scientific studies.
