Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Senior Engineer in Minnesota to join the Integrated System Planning (ISP) group. You will help advance distribution system planning, perform hosting capacity studies, and support regulatory filings with data-driven modeling work using tools like CYME, Synergi, and OpenDSS.

The role requires 5+ years in engineering with a strong background in power systems modeling, data validation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited curriculum.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE preferred; 7+ years without EIT/FE.
• Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level.
• Preferred PE registration may be required depending on business need.

Responsibilities

• Applies extensive technical expertise and leads projects of moderate to large size, scope and complexity.
• Develops technical documentation (designs, testing, calculations, reports, standards).
• Provides ongoing technical support for project activities within Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics and Regulatory.
• Coordinates/leads multiple projects or portions of projects (research, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, commissioning).
• Represents the organization as the prime technical contact in bid/evaluation processes and provides recommendations for selection.
• Resolves difficult technical/business matters with internal and external stakeholders with precise communication.
• Mentors less experienced engineers and guides staff assignments.
• Leads budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and related activities in support of projects.
