What’s Upstate in Santa Clara, CA seeks a Senior Director of Power Systems Engineering to lead the design, implementation and validation of high-efficiency AC/DC and DC/DC converters for next-generation data center architectures.

The role combines hardware topology design with advanced digital control and requires collaboration with a cross-functional team across devices, systems and packaging to deliver scalable power solutions for AI, GPU and CPU platforms.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a power electronics specialization.
• 5+ years in high-power SMPS design or grid-tied conversion.
• Hands-on SiC and GaN wide-bandgap devices and their gate-drivers, isolators and sensing circuits.
• Experience programming microcontrollers or FPGAs for power electronics.
• Proficiency with simulation tools such as PLECS, SimPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink or LTspice.
• Knowledge of 48V and 800V/±400V DC bus distribution in hyperscale settings.
• Familiarity with Open Compute Project (OCP) power specs and 80 Plus Titanium efficiency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build AC/DC front-ends and DC/DC converters from kilowatt to hundreds of kilowatts.
• Design high-efficiency, high-density topologies to meet data center power requirements.
• Collaborate on hardware development, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout.
• Design and model discrete and planar magnetics for high-frequency operation.
• Develop, code, and tune digital control loops for real-time power conversion.
• Direct EMI/EMC mitigation strategies and validate systems against grid and safety standards.
