Job summary

NuDevco Investments is seeking a Full Stack DBA/Data Analyst in Houston to design and improve PostgreSQL data models for scalable applications. You will work with software engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust schemas, efficient queries, and reliable datasets.

The role focuses on PostgreSQL schema design and performance, with supporting reporting and analytics. It is not a frontend development role, but may involve lightweight data tooling and validation tasks.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing and improving PostgreSQL databases used by production applications.
• Strong relational modeling skills and performance-conscious schema choices.
• Advanced SQL skills including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and optimization.
• Understanding of PostgreSQL indexing, MVCC, locking, and vacuuming.
• Experience profiling data and validating results against source records and rules.
• Ability to safely deliver schema changes and data migrations in active systems.
• Python or another scripting language for repeatable analysis and validation.
• Clear communication and familiarity with Git, code reviews, and design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Schema design and data modeling across production schemas.
• Translate requirements into logical/physical data models and structures.
• Design tables, keys, constraints, and data types for integrity and performance.
• Review existing schemas for duplication and risky growth patterns.
• Trade off normalization vs denormalization for read/write efficiency.
• Choose relational vs JSONB with indexing and validation strategies.
• Design for tenant isolation, audit history, and evolving needs.
• Document schemas, data definitions, and design decisions.
• Diagnose expensive queries using EXPLAIN ANALYZE and related stats.
• Design and tune indexes, optimize joins, filtering, sorting, and pagination.
• Investigate locking, long transactions, and connection pressure with engineers.
• Collaborate on data observability and backup/restore readiness.
