Job summary

Altruist is hiring a Staff Database Administrator to own our multi-terabyte PostgreSQL estate and lead multi-region resilience for a high-volume brokerage platform. You will drive upgrades, data movement using Debezium, Kafka, and AWS DMS, and shape a domain-driven data architecture with read replicas and partitioned clusters.

You will partner with security, platform, data, and product teams, mentoring engineers and building AI-assisted tooling to automate routine work.

Qualifications

• 8+ years operating production relational databases at scale.
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise including partitioning, indexing, and replication.
• Experience with Aurora or RDS at multi-terabyte scale and major-version upgrades.
• Familiarity with SOC, security, and compliance considerations.

Responsibilities

• Own production PostgreSQL estate end to end across multi-region workloads.
• Lead multi-region resilience and disaster-recovery planning for data stores.
• Partition domains and manage read paths to limit blast radius.
• Architect capacity growth with sharding and partitioning strategies.
• Plan and execute major-version upgrades with minimal downtime.
• Oversee change data capture and data movement across systems.
• Govern migrations with safeguards, tests, and automation.
• Collaborate on encryption and least-privilege access controls.
• Be a senior escalation point for database-driven incidents.
• Build automation and AI-assisted tooling for self-serve DB tasks.
