AECOM is seeking a Senior Port/Rail Engineer – Project Manager to be based in Raleigh, NC, Wilmington, NC or North Charleston, SC. The role supports the Goods Movement and engineering team across the Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina region, overseeing multi-disciplinary port and rail projects and driving business development.

The position requires leading design and construction, mentoring staff, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance,

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • PE license (PE or P.Eng.) required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager and Technical Lead on complex, multi-disciplinary Port and Rail projects.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of port/rail infrastructure including terminals and freight rail.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Provide QA and ensure standards, codes, and client requirements are met.
  • Support development of project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Mentor engineering staff and foster a collaborative culture.
  • Represent AECOM at industry events and client meetings as a subject matter expert.
  • Support business development and capture planning across the region.

AECOMis seeking aSenior Port/Rail Engineer – Project Managerto be based inRaleigh, NC, Wilmington, NC or North Charleston, SC.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Port/Rail Engineer – Project Manager is a senior-level position responsible for supporting the Goods Movement and engineering team in the Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina Region. This individual will oversee the delivery of multi-disciplinary Port, Rail, Goods Movement and Freight engineering projects, serve as a technical lead and project manager, and drive business development efforts across the region. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of Port, Marine, and Freight Rail infrastructure in the region while working on high-profile projects including Port and Marine terminals, Intermodal terminals, freight rail, and multimodal corridors throughout the region and country. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a collaborative spirit to support the growth of AECOM’s Goods Movement / Port and Marine practice.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Project Manager and Technical Lead on complex, multi-disciplinary Port and Rail projects.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of Port and Rail infrastructure including port cargo terminals, intermodal terminals, marine structures, freight rail, and related facilities.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide quality assurance and ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Support the development of project scopes and estimates, engineering budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that promotes innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of engineering staff across disciplines.
  • Represent AECOM at industry events, client meetings, and public forums as a subject matter expert in Port and Goods Movement engineering.
  • Supporting business development efforts for all engineering disciplines in the region, including client engagement, proposal development, and pursuit strategy.
  • Participate inclient pre-positioning efforts, including attending industry events, supporting capture planning, and contributing to client engagement strategies.
  • Assist in identifying new opportunities and supportinggo/no-go decisionsthrough market research and client intelligence.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Engineering discipline and 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Port and Marine infrastructure design, including cargo terminals, freight rail, and inland ports.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in Ports/Marine and/or Freight Rail and 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Port Authorities, Terminal Operators, and Goods Movement and freight rail clients within the region and in the southeast.
  • Experience in engineering project delivery, including design and construction phases.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, permitting, and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience supporting multi-disciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client relationship skills.
