Qualifications

Responsibilities

HEAPY is seeking a Senior Level Plumbing Designer or Plumbing Engineer to join our Colleague First culture in a hybrid arrangement in our Raleigh office. This position will support the Healthcare and Corporate Teams.

The Senior Level Plumbing Designer/Engineer performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard plumbing design engineering techniques for HEAPY projects. This colleague accomplishes specific objectives that involve different variables related to plumbing engineering systems in the Built Environment. In addition, they maintain a foundational understanding of fire suppression design, particularly for renovations and straightforward systems, ensuring integration with broader mechanical and plumbing scopes where applicable.

This role offers the opportunity to grow your plumbing design/engineering career while contributing to meaningful projects in a trusted, long-standing HEAPY market.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program. Equivalent experience or training may be considered in place of formal education or prior experience.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree in engineering) related to plumbing engineering systems in the Built Environment.
  • Experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.
  • Capability of exercising judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make design adaptations and modifications.
  • Experience using various computer software packages and automated plumbing engineering and design equipment.
  • Should be in possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification and be working toward Professional Engineering (PE) Registration or Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) designation. This would be attained within the first 2 years of attaining this position level.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures accurate input into the model or design tool and focuses on understanding the underlying reasons (i.e., ask questions).
  • Develops full plan designs, details, and outlines, identifies materials, cost estimates, and performs calculations for a detailed segment of a project.
  • Gathers and records information for the preparation of design specifications.
  • Reviews/evaluates vendor (and at higher levels, approves) shop drawings, bids, and submittals to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Reviews and approves plumbing design drawings for assigned segments of project.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to perform field observations, tests, and measurements, collect field data, and prepare designs, reports, and related documentation (commensurate with level).
  • Performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard plumbing design engineering techniques for segments of projects, small projects, or larger projects (commensurate with level).
  • Leverages AI and automation in design and project responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Meets project deadlines with punctuality, monitoring progress, and ensuring deliverables meet requirements.
  • Ensures project deliverables adhere to client project requirements, meet required standards, and implements corrective action as needed.
  • Delivers exceptional quality assurance to build trust, increase brand loyalty, and drive success and innovation.
  • Builds strong customer relationships by delivering exceptional service that exceeds expectations.
  • Enhances design capabilities, continuously learns, collaborates, experiments, seeks feedback, and suggests new ideas and technologies.
  • Proactively seeks and engages in diverse experiences and learning opportunities to continually expand knowledge and leadership skills.
  • Additional responsibilities as requested/needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to remain sedentary at a workstation for long periods of time while operating a keyboard and using a computer screen.
  • Ability to operate a mouse, stylus, or similar tool to make adjustments on electronic visuals.
  • Ability to see details of objects on a screen, including differences in colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Ability to communicate in person, electronically, and via phone with other individuals.
  • Possession of reliable transportation to and from project sites.
  • Ability to work in all elements of indoor and outdoor environments, which include the heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.
  • Ability to access all areas of the jobsite with activities that include ascending and descending stairs, scaffolding, ladders, navigating elevation changes, etc.
  • Capable of working in physical positions that may include maneuvering oneself into different positions traditionally achieved by kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc.
  • Ability to move, transport, or position items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to apply established protocols and practices in a timely manner and follow safety guidelines for both the company and clients.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and evaluate information related to projects and calculations (such as cost analysis, facility assessments, design calculations, etc.).
