Marathon Petroleum Company LP is seeking a Senior Platforms Engineer in Houston to lead a high-visibility digital transformation program. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field and 5+ years of relevant platform engineering experience.
  • Experience administering, supporting, and optimizing Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, and Power Platform environments, including governance, security, and operational support.
  • Experience administering Dynamics 365 Project Operations, Field Service, or related workloads.
  • Experience implementing platform security, RBAC, auditing, identity/access management, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management and root cause analysis across enterprise apps, integrations, and cloud platforms.
  • Experience supporting and monitoring enterprise integrations using APIs, Azure services, messaging and middleware.
  • Experience implementing and supporting ALM and DevSecOps practices using Azure DevOps and GitHub, with monitoring and observability tools.
  • Knowledge of AI platforms/tools (Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI) for productivity improvements.
  • Power Platform certifications or equivalent credentials are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve platform and system performance.
  • Establish benchmarks, plan capacity, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize infrastructure.
  • Develop and improve troubleshooting procedures to minimize downtime and document processes.
  • Lead platform and system support activities and resolve escalated issues.
  • Perform advanced system tuning and optimization using ITSM practices.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve support processes and methodologies.
  • Plan future platform and system backup and disaster recovery testing.
  • Design and configure complex platforms and systems following best practices and standards.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with original designs and configurations and address deviations.
  • Build and deploy highly available, scalable infrastructure solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge base with troubleshooting guides and best practices; promote cross-team training and collaboration.
  • Manage platform lifecycle: environment strategy, release coordination, deployment governance, change management, operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity, architecture, infrastructure, and identity teams for security/compliance alignment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identifies performance bottlenecks, conducts root cause analysis, and proposes and implements solutions to enhance platform & system performance and resource utilization.
  • Establishes performance benchmarks, conducts capacity planning, and collaborates with other teams, including junior engineers and cross functional teams to optimize infrastructure performance and activities.
  • Contributes to the development and improvement of troubleshooting procedures, measures to minimize platform & system downtime, and documentation.

  • Leads and manages platform & system technical support activities and troubleshooting efforts, including handling escalated and complex issues.
  • Performs advanced system tuning and optimization to maximize performance using IT Service Management practices.

  • Participates in future platform & system backup planning.
  • Leads the design of disaster/system recovery and testing.
  • Analyzes performance and utilization data to identify trends and patterns; provides recommendations for optimization and improvement; prepares comprehensive reports on infrastructure performance; and implements corrective actions to drive continuous system improvements.
  • Leads the design and configuration of complex platforms & systems, considering best practices and industry standards.
  • Leads ongoing compliance with original design and configuration and corrects for deviation from standards.
  • Builds and deploys highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive knowledge base for platforms & systems, including troubleshooting guides, configuration documentation, and best practices.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing culture by organizing training sessions, mentoring junior engineers, and encouraging cross-team collaboration.
  • Leads platform lifecycle management activities, including environment strategy, release coordination, deployment governance, change management, and operational readiness.
  • Partners with cybersecurity, architecture, infrastructure, and identity management teams to ensure alignment with enterprise security, compliance, and operational requirements.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience. 5+ years of relevant platforms engineer experience. Experience administering, supporting, and optimizing Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, and Power Platform environments, including environment management, governance, security, compliance, and operational support. Experience administering Dynamics 365 Project Operations, Field Service, or related business application workloads. Experience implementing and managing platform security, role‑based access controls, auditing, identity and access management, and compliance requirements. Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and root cause analysis skills across enterprise applications, integrations, and cloud-based platforms. Experience supporting, and monitoring enterprise integrations using APIs, Azure services, messaging technologies, and middleware platforms. Experience implementing and supporting Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and operational excellence practices, including source control, release management, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevSecOps principles utilizing Azure DevOps and GitHub, as well as enterprise monitoring, observability, logging, application performance management solutions. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to support multiple applications and collaborate effectively across cross‑functional teams. Knowledge of AI platforms and tools, including Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and OpenAI GPT, with the ability to leverage AI‑assisted capabilities to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and solution delivery highly desired. Power Platform Solution Architect Expert, Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate, Dynamics 365 certifications, or equivalent credentials highly desired.
