Job summary

Discord is seeking a Senior Engineer to advance our security program with a strong focus on identity and access management. You will own cross-functional security projects, define non-human actor identities, and harden our Zero Trust infrastructure while balancing risk with product velocity.

You will partner with engineering and security teams to build scalable authentication, authorization, and access controls at scale across multiple cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production systems or infrastructure.
• 3+ years of experience writing software in Python, TypeScript, or Rust.
• 3+ years of experience securing systems with millions of users.
• Experience building or operating identity and access management systems: authentication, authorization, or access control at scale.
• Understanding of modern authentication and authorization concepts (RBAC, OAuth, OIDC, SSO, Zero Trust, mTLS, cloud IAM).
• Experience building in multi-cloud environments (GCP, Cloudflare, AWS).
• Experience designing software for customers beyond your immediate team.

Responsibilities

• Own software engineering projects end-to-end on a highly autonomous team; this is a code-forward role.
• Define identity for autonomous agents and non-human actors, including provisioning, authentication, authorization, and auditing.
• Build and evolve Access, Discord's employee authorization platform, for discoverable, least-privilege, self-serve permissions.
• Design and harden Zero Trust architecture spanning human and service-to-service authentication.
• Automate continuous permission right-sizing to enforce least privilege.
• Develop secure baselines for cloud identity and secure the software supply chain from dev to production.
• Consult on risk assessments, architectures, threat models, code reviews, and other security decisions.
