Job summary

Fleetio is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This role will have a direct impact on our customers, our engineers, and our business by ensuring our applications are highly available, scalable, and performant.

As part of Fleetio, you will work with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Rails, and Datadog to drive observability, code reviews, and production reliability in a fast-paced DevOps culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years AWS experience.
• 3+ years Kubernetes experience.
• Terraform or IaC tooling experience.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking fundamentals.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or equivalent web framework.
• Expert at profiling and benchmarking code.
• Effective at code review and identifying performance issues.
• Experience with Datadog or other APM tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage cloud infrastructure using IaC.
• Manage and scale a Ruby on Rails stack.
• Implement monitoring tools to improve observability.
• Perform code reviews of new features for performance.
• Debug production issues across stack levels.
• Plan for growth, optimize, and automate Infrastructure.
• Partner with feature teams to safely deploy and operate features.
• Respond to reliability and security incidents from triage to follow-up.

Who You Are

Our ideal candidate is an Infrastructure Engineer experienced in scaling Ruby on Rails applications, with a passion for optimization and performance improvements. You bring a strong background in Site Reliability and Infrastructure Engineering for Rails applications. You follow Agile and DevOps principles, can effectively influence teams to achieve goals, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills in our fast-paced environment.

Your Impact

As a Senior Platform Engineer on Fleetio's Platform Engineering team, you will:

• Manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
• Manage and scale a Ruby on Rails stack
• Implement monitoring tools to improve observability
• Perform code review of new features to ensure they meet performance requirements
• Debug production issues across all levels of the stack
• Plan for the growth of, optimize, and automate Fleetio's Infrastructure
• Partner with feature engineering teams to help them build, deploy, and operate their features safely and efficiently
• Respond to reliability and security incidents, from triage and mitigation through post-incident follow-up

Your Experience

• 5+ years of AWS Experience
• 3+ years Kubernetes Experience
• Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform)
• Deep understanding of cloud network fundamentals (routing, firewalls, load balancers, CDNs, VPCs, etc.)
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or an equivalent web application framework
• Expert at profiling and benchmarking source code
• Effective at code review, and identifying potential performance problems before they reach production
• Experience with Datadog or other APM tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Considered a Plus

• Experience with distributed event and data stores, such as Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, Memcached, and TimescaleDB
• You know a thing or two about the fleet management industry
• Experience using AI tools to automate repetitive work and accelerate infrastructure projects
