Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a hands-on Investment Platform Architect to evolve the VPI platform on AWS, contributing code and shaping architecture across cloud-native services, data pipelines, and platform integration.

You will write production-quality Java and Python, design scalable microservices, and collaborate with product, engineering, and operations to deliver robust, cost-efficient solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering background with experience building investment platforms or large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on architect or senior engineer delivering production systems.
• Proficiency in Java and Python.
• Experience designing cloud-native architectures on AWS.
• Understanding of microservices, messaging, caching, and asynchronous processing.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Independent contributor while collaborating across teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve application and platform architecture aligned with Vanguard technology standards and roadmaps.
• Drive architectural decisions for cloud-native systems balancing scalability, resiliency, security, and cost.
• Develop and review architecture/design docs for new capabilities and platform enhancements.
• Write production-quality code and build cloud-native services on AWS (microservices, APIs, infrastructure).
• Support data engineering and platform integration for investment workflows and analytics.
• Modernize legacy systems while maintaining production stability.
• Design scalable infrastructure on AWS including containers and Kubernetes.
• Lead vendor evaluations and provide technical guidance during onboarding and integrations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and platform reliability.
