Job summary

Capital Power is seeking a Senior Plant Engineer for its Arlington Valley site in the United States. The role focuses on applying technical expertise to support plant operation while partnering with multifunctional teams to optimize performance and longevity.

You will contribute to project planning, implement sound Asset Engineering practices, and improve heat balance for efficiency. This role requires strong communication and 8+ years of engineering experience in an operating plant.

Qualifications

• Completed Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process or other related fields.
• Strong communication skills (written, spoken).
• Experience in operating plant setting with at least 3 years in dedicated engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance and heat balance for efficiency improvements.
• Review and apply internal engineering guidelines and standards.
• Contribute to project planning and execution through all phases.
• Collaborate with corporate Engineering and other teams to integrate Asset Engineering practices.
• Act as site NERC Compliance Officer and interface with Compliance Team.
• Own the Management of Change program at the site level.
• Provide O&M feedback to advance effective solutions for facility issues.
• Evaluate economic benefits of proposed technical solutions and recommend alternatives.
• Recommend and implement safe engineering solutions related to plant emissions and equipment.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, our Senior Plant Engineer will apply their technical expertise to support the plant’s operation while partnering with multifunctional teams. The position will also aim to optimize the plant’s performance and longevity.

You will contribute to our team by:

• Monitoring Plant performance and heat balance for continual output and efficiency improvements.
• Reviewing, understanding, applying, and developing internal engineering guidelines, procedures, and standards at the site level in coordination with corporate Engineering teams as required.
• Contributing to project planning and execution through all phases including front end input as well as post implementation support.
• Working collaboratively with corporate Engineering team members and building strong relationships with other work groups to integrate sound Asset Engineering practices into both the day‑to‑day and long‑term efforts of Capital Power.
• Acting as site NERC Compliance Officer, to include reporting and interfacing with the Capital Power Compliance Team as well as external stakeholders.
• Owning the Management of Change program at the site level.
• Providing O&M feedback to the engineering group to advance the creation of effective solutions to facility issues.
• Evaluating the economic benefits of proposed technical solutions and providing recommendations of alternate solutions.
• Recommending and implementing safe and effective engineering solutions relating to plant emissions, control systems, equipment failure, equipment optimization, etc.
• Improving technical and management skillset through formal and informal training opportunities.

What you will bring to the role

Education

• Completed Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process or other closely related engineering fields.

Experience and Technical Skills

• Minimum 8-years of experience practicing engineering, including a minimum of 3 years of dedicated engineering experience in an operating plant setting. Experience equivalencies may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
• Advanced understanding of Pressure piping and vessel design, maintenance and compliance to codes and standards and/or Rotating equipment and related engineering/technical knowledge (vibration, lube, thermography).
• Thorough understanding of maintenance processes, methods, and techniques as they apply in an industrial setting, with a focus on power plants systems.
• Strong communication skills (written, spoken).
