Job summary

The City of Steamboat Springs is seeking a Senior Planner to join the Planning Department, focusing on advanced planning, code amendments, and policy work within development review and long-range planning programs.

You will work independently on complex projects, supervise teams as needed, engage the public, and provide technical analyses to support decisions in land use, zoning, and urban design.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in land-use planning or urban planning.
• Five years of municipal planning experience; Master’s degree preferred; AICP desirable.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with the public.

Responsibilities

• Review development permit applications and provide guidance on standards.
• Coordinate input from staff and agencies and prepare reports.
• Make discretionary code interpretations with management.
• Present findings to boards, staff, and the public.
• Lead long-range growth planning and code development.
• Gather data, coordinate with departments, and engage the public.
• Monitor plans and coordinate with regional efforts.
• Be an ambassador for City values and provide staff support to commissions.
• Prepare graphics/maps for reports and grant applications.
