Job summary

Moog Inc. seeks a Sr. Planner/Buyer in Santa Barbara, CA, with a hybrid work setup. You will lead procurement strategies, negotiate with suppliers, and manage materials to support our Turreted Weapon Systems unit within the Defense Division.

Required are 5+ years in procurement, a related degree (MBA preferred), and strong experience with SAP/Ariba and MRP. This role drives supplier relationships and total cost optimization across global supply chains.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, engineering, finance, technical background or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive procurement experience in manufacturing or engineering.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a sourcing organization or relevant business/commercial experience.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, MS Office Proficiency, MRP, SAP, Ariba; Experience implementing SAP systems a plus.
  • Established Procurement skillset to include sourcing indirect categories, negotiation, strategy development and execution, contract development, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier diversity and management.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and developing procurement tools and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies for assigned categories.
  • Develop and maintain professional and productive relationships with internal customers, stakeholders, and external suppliers.
  • Lead vendor negotiations related to price, quality, specifications, and delivery to meet project requirements; ensure timely supplier delivery.
  • Conduct global market research to identify potential new suppliers and products; lead cross-functional team to qualify and optimize the supply base.
  • Execute RFQs for designated categories to determine supplier capabilities, risks, pricing, and services focusing on total cost of ownership.
  • Source domestically and internationally the procurement of direct and indirect materials to support manufacturing needs.
  • Maintain internal records and system data fields for purchasing lead times, inventory accuracy, and supplier performance data.
  • Comply with all SOX requirements and approved processes and procedures.
  • Review MRP requirements and inventory on hand balances to ensure material availability; use ERP to manage inventory requirements.
  • Review and understand drawings, material specifications and engineering specifications.

Moog Military Aircraft LLC. is seeking a Sr. Planner/Buyer for our Turreted Weapon Systems Business Unit, Defense Division.

As our Sr. Planner/Buyer, you will make critical contributions by holding responsibility for:
  • Managing the development and execution of procurement strategies for assigned category strategies
  • Develop and maintain professional and productive relationships with both internal customers and stakeholders of all Operating Groups and external suppliers
  • In collaboration with our Legal team, conduct vendor negotiations related to material and services including price, quality, specifications, and delivery to meet project requirement; ensure that supplier delivery schedules and quality are maintained at a level necessary to support timelines
  • Conduct global market research to identify potential new suppliers and products; lead cross functional team to qualify and also seek opportunities to optimize the supply base, where applicable
  • Execute RFQ’s for designated categories to determine supplier capabilities, risks, pricing, and services focusing on total cost of ownership

To be considered for this Sr. Planner/Buyer role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, engineering, finance, technical background or related field of study is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive procurement experience (usually post education) in the field of manufacturing or engineering
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a sourcing organization or relevant business/commercial experience
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, MS Office Proficiency, MRP, SAP, Ariba; Experience implementing SAP systems a plus
  • Established Procurement skillset to include sourcing indirect categories, negotiation, strategy development and execution, contract development, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier diversity and management
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and developing procurement tools and reports
  • Proven ability to utilize various industry information and benchmarking, draw upon knowledge and researching data utilizing internal and external sources of the global markets, interpret key stakeholder requirements, and leverage actionable data analytics in evaluating strategies, developing options, and executing tactics to deliver sustainable sourcing solutions
It Would Be Great If You Also Had
  • MBA preferred
  • Project/Program Management experience
  • Certification in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Program Management
  • Knowledge of procurement and contractual law is preferred
  • ISM-CPM/CPSM certified, APICs-CPIM, preferred

Salary Range Transparency

Santa Barbara, CA $115,000.00–$148,000.00 Annually
