Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Pipe Stress Engineer to work in Bothell, WA or any other U.S. office. This role may be remote or hybrid and is located in the United States. The position is responsible for performing pipe stress analysis for power piping and industrial systems, verifying piping flexibility, stability, and equipment nozzle load qualification, and supporting project deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis for power piping and industrial systems per B31.1 and B31.3.
  • Model piping systems using stress software to verify flexibility, stability, and nozzle load qualification.
  • Proactively obtain needed information and support to complete work on time.
  • Balance workload and priorities across multiple projects with a commitment to safety.
  • Maintain and build strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Perform clear calculations with schematics, references, and assumptions.
  • Apply knowledge of pipe materials, valves, relief valves, and control valves.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and vendors as required.
  • Communicate questions to/from equipment suppliers and review submittal documents.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, other offices, or manufacturing plants.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar ABET‑accredited program.
  • PE license preferred (not required).
  • 15+ years of pipe stress analysis experience.
  • 15+ years of experience using AutoPipe or Caesar II.
  • Experience with critical high‑energy piping systems, specifically steam systems.
  • Ability to read and understand flow diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Experience writing pipe stress reports.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn AutoPipe, Caesar II, AutoCAD, SmartPlant 3D, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Plant 3D, MathCAD, or FEA analysis programs.
  • Experience with simple‑cycle, combined‑cycle, Rankine cycle, or nuclear power plant design.
  • Understanding of internal and external piping specifications.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1, B31.3, ASME Section VIII, and other relevant industry piping codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and hydrogen gas.
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, team player, and good verbal communication skills.
