Job summary

SoCalGas is seeking a Senior Design Engineer who will deliver advanced models and detailed documentation to ensure constructability and regulatory compliance for infrastructure projects. You will lead 3D models, piping layouts, and orthographic drawings, providing technical guidance and solving complex design issues.

Requires a 4 year degree and 5 years of related experience, with expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D, piping design, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires 5 years of related experience.
• Proficiency in CAD and 2D/3D modeling to develop complex designs, layouts and drawings.
• Experience with regulatory compliance and quality management within engineering projects.
• Ability to prototype, test, and refine design concepts.
• Strong documentation and records management skills for project deliverables.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical drawing standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D and piping design practices.

Responsibilities

• Creates complex 2D/3D models using advanced design software.
• Reviews design documents for accuracy, constructability, and safety compliance.
• Integrates geographic data into infrastructure design layouts.
• Identifies design risks and recommends corrective actions.
• Implements digital workflows to improve drafting efficiency and collaboration.
• Mentors junior drafters on software and drafting techniques.
• Prepares visualizations and renderings for client presentations.
• Ensures sustainability considerations are reflected in design documents.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
