Job summary

Automatic Data Processing, Inc. in Colwich, KS is seeking an experienced Design Services professional to provide advanced drafting and piping design support. The role requires expertise with AutoCAD 2D/3D and related tools, along with strong coordination with engineers and third-party designers.

You will develop piping layouts, Isometrics, BOMs, and P&IDs for complex systems, mentor junior designers, and ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery of design work.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of piping design experience required.
• Experience with 2D/3D AutoCAD and piping software.
• Familiar with AISI, AISC, ASME and ASTM specs.
• Ability to travel up to 10%
• Proficiency reading technical drawings.

Design Services Regular Full Time Professional Colwich, KS, US

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for providing advanced drafting and piping level design support to Design Services team and directing and providing quality control checks for the work of other designers..

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

• Complete assigned projects on-time and accurately; work independently, develop scope and procedures with input from Team Leaders and managers.
• Perform design-drafting assignments using AutoCAD 2D and 3D drawing techniques.
• Draft plans and construction drawings considering the operation and layout of piping systems.
• Conduct field work, including walk-downs locating tie-ins, dimensioned field sketches.
• Build equipment models based on vendor/specification documents.
• Create accurate Isometric drawings, develop accurate Bill of Material documents.
• Prepare layout, design, and 3D modeling of complex piping systems based on P&IDs.
• Generate complex structural model, coordinate and trouble shoot structural model with structural engineer.
• Ability to interpret piping stress analysis reports and to collaborate with stress engineers to establish most economical and safe design.
• Manage and communicate with 3 rd Party designers to assure quality and efficient work product.
• Ability to mentor and train other designers and drafters.
• Generate line lists and tie-in list. Actively participate in P&ID review meetings and drive model review discussions with the technical project team, 3 rd party designers, and customer.
• Ability to utilized scanned point cloud files to produce accurate piping models.
• Ability to create and modify Cadworks catalog and piping specifications to match standards and maintain the integridty of the standards.
• Follow and participate in development of engineering standards, format and procedures to create, update, revise and modify drawings; communicate requirements of standards and procedures to others.
• Utilize and create sketches, notes, and other input material to generate drawings.
• Report necessary design changes and/or mistakes to project team, identify changes and manage the revision process effectively.
• Learn and adapt quickly to assigned project tasks, proceeding independently to initiate those tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Responsible for quality of work produced and follow methods of continuous improvement. Make recommendations for specific improvement opportunities.
• Incorporate safety, operability, maintainability and constructability in design work.
• Review and check work prepared by others and provide constructive feedback.
• Generate man-hour estimates associated with the design services scope and continuously monitor progress to manhours and schedule and report to the project team. Assume accoutablity for personal work product and product of other designers.
• Actively participate in project meetings and design/model reviews. Provide accurate feedback to project team regarding design progress. Actively use document management software and be responsive through the use of submittals and RFI tools.

Education/Certification:

Bachelor or Technical degree preferred

Required Knowledge & Experience:

10+years applicable piping design experience required.

Skills/Abilities:

Possess excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office and AutoCAD (current version or within last 3 versions) 2D and 3D, Cadworks, Navisworks, and ReCap proficiency preferred

Proficiency test may be required as part of the interview process.

Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings

Familiar with AISI, AISC, ASME and ASTM specifications preferred

Knowledge of construction and fabrication techniques preferred

Must understand use of tape measure, square, level and various layout tools

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Must possess current, valid driver's license with no restrictions. Travel required as necessary to acquire field measurements and understand drafting scope required for projects. Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time. A
