Position Overview

Days - Part Time - Rehab - Inpatient

At Houston Methodist, the Senior Physical Therapist (Sr PT) is responsible for formal duties for a service line, shift, and/or multiple clinics. The Sr PT functions as a clinical expert, performs patient assessments, develops plans of care, and delivers corresponding treatments across a broad range of diagnoses and acuities or within a specialized service line. The role includes managing metrics, analyzing and reporting data, leading process and quality improvement initiatives, mentoring team members, conducting quality assurance audits, and serving as the liaison between management and staff. The Sr PT coordinates activities for the service line, shift, and/or assigned clinics and participates in business development and research initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved education program for the required credential(s).
  • Five years as a Physical Therapist, or four years with a specialty certification.
Licenses and Certifications
  • PT – Physical Therapist – State Licensure – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (PSV) within 90 days.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association.
Specialty certification is highly preferred.

  • Lead a positive work environment and team to achieve optimal department results, establishing professional relationships and serving as primary contact for routine matters with physicians.
  • Model therapeutic communication, actively listening and teaching to patients, families, and the interprofessional team, and collaborate on the plan of care.
  • Implement protocols and objectives with team members to optimize staff performance, teamwork, patient safety, and customer service, providing feedback to management.
  • Serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to other PTs, providing guidance with project development, implementation, evaluation, research, and education.
Service Essential Functions
  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations to identify functional level and develop the plan of care; provide highly advanced therapy treatments as the clinical expert.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers, adapting teaching methods based on comprehension.
  • Advocate for patients/families to resolve clinical and ethical concerns and drive improvement of patient satisfaction scores.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Assess patients regularly, monitor progress, modify goals, and plan or program adjustments as needed; anticipate complications and address them proactively.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and report quality and safety metrics; develop and implement initiatives to improve the patient experience and meet departmental and hospital targets.
  • Oversee workflow, caseload, and patient processes, ensuring quality outcomes and safety while coordinating activities for the service line or clinics.
Finance Essential Functions
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient education and procedures, enter charges, perform charge reconciliation, and support charge master item/CPT maintenance.
  • Use resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment, managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks to meet productivity standards.

  • Develop patient treatment protocols and best practices with research-based evidence, offering innovative solutions and leading performance improvement projects.
  • Lead department projects, programs, and shared governance activities; participate in teaching opportunities and community services.
  • Initiate opportunities for self-development, expand learning, assist management with program development, and maintain the My Development Plan.
