Qualifications

• Experience in the Semiconductor Manufacturing industry.
• Hands on experience with photonic layout tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify layout of photonic devices and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).
• Work cross-functionally with engineers to ensure quality layouts.
• Perform physical verification of mask data.
• Maintain automated mask build workflows.
• Monitor quality escapes and drive improvements.
• Develop photonic design automation workflows.

Skills

Strong programming & scripting skills (preferably Python)

Knowledge of semiconductor design and/or fabrication

Knowledge of optics and/or photonics theory and design

Experience with version control, CI/CD pipeline software, Agile

Proficiency in commercial photonic layout tools (Synopsys OptoCompiler & OptoDesigner)

Experience laying out analog circuits in Virtuoso or Custom Compiler

Strong problem solving, communication, organizational, interpersonal skills

Education

B.S. or M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science or related engineering discipline

Responsibilities

This candidate will be responsible for creating and modifying layout of photonic devices and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with photonic component designers, PIC architects, process engineers, process design kit (PDK) developers, and test engineers to ensure quality layouts are implemented on OpenLight’s silicon photonics platform. This position will be located in OpenLight's Goleta or Santa Clara office.

• Use custom built and commercially available tools to design layouts of photonic components and circuits.
• Perform physical verification of mask data to ensure design and manufacturability requirements are met.
• Maintain and execute automated mask build workflows to generate artwork in GDS or DXF file format.
• Work closely with process engineers to ensure layout compatibility with rapidly developing design rules and guidelines.
• Continuously monitor quality escapes. Perform root cause analysis and drive improvements.
• Participate in development & implementation of next-generation photonic design automation workflows.

Skills & Preferred Experience

• B.S. or M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
• Strong programming & scripting skills (preferably Python).
• Knowledge of semiconductor design and/or fabrication.
• Knowledge of optics and/or photonics theory and design.
• Experience with version control, CI/CD pipeline software, Agile.
• Proficiency in commercial photonic layout tools (Synopsys OptoCompiler & OptoDesigner, Synopsys ICV, KLayout) is a plus.
• Hands on experience laying out analog circuits in either Virtuoso or Custom Compiler EDA environment is a plus.
• Strong problem solving, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Experience in the Semiconductor Manufacturing industry.
