Job summary

Baystate Health seeks a skilled phlebotomist to collect whole blood donations via venipuncture at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. You will participate in donor registration, medical interviews, and eligibility assessments, supporting blood drives at fixed sites and on bloodmobile.

The role requires advanced phlebotomy, specimen handling, and strong teamwork. GED or HiSET is required; Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• GED or HiSET is required.
• 2 years phlebotomy experience, including 12 months BRL/BH experience.

Responsibilities

• Safety: dispose of bio-hazardous waste, handle difficult donor situations, maintain safety records.
• Technical: perform donor identification, venipuncture, Hgb testing, and handling.
• Work Relationships: communicate well and coordinate with staff and donor sites.
• IT: troubleshoot donor program IT and connectivity issues.
• Clerical: obtain donor consent, maintain records and assist in recruitment.
• Leadership: mentor new staff and coordinate blood drive responses.
• Supervisory: assist supervision and quality audits.
• Additional: donor registration, vital signs, donor site coordination.
