The National Constitution Center was established to serve as America’s constitutional home: a museum, civic stage, and national platform where people encounter the nation’s founding documents and ideals through scholarship, dialogue, and immersive learning experiences. Located in historic Philadelphia, the Center’s museum invites visitors from around the world to explore the ideas, debates, and principles that shape our constitutional democracy through dynamic exhibits and public programs. Position Summary

At a time of exciting growth and momentum, and with the launch this fall of a new strategic plan, the National Constitution Center seeks an experienced and highly motivated Senior Philanthropic Advisor to drive growth in its major gifts program, the President’s Council, and advance the Center’s national mission. Reporting to the Vice President of Development and working directly and regularly with the President and CEO and Chief Content and Learning Officer, the Senior Philanthropic Advisor will manage a portfolio of high-net-worth donors and prospects, with responsibility for cultivating, soliciting, and securing significant annual philanthropic investments ($50,000, $100,000, or more annually) as well as multi-year six- and seven-figure leadership gifts.

This is a senior frontline fundraising role for a proactive, strategic relationship-builder with a demonstrated track record of closing major gifts. The Senior Philanthropic Advisor will also serve as a thought partner in the Center’s broader individual giving strategy, helping to strengthen its major gifts pipeline and elevate its national philanthropic profile.

Key Responsibilities

• Portfolio Management and Strategy:
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 100–125 current and prospective major donors nationwide.
  • Develop and execute tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for donors at the $50,000+ annual level, with an emphasis on securing six- and seven-figure commitments.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of near- and long-term opportunities, with responsibility for renewing, upgrading, soliciting, and closing gifts.
• Donor Engagement and Solicitation:
  • Conduct high-touch, personalized donor engagement including in-person meetings, calls, and customized communications.
  • Draft strategic proposals and gift agreements in collaboration with leadership and department and program teams.
• Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Serve as a key partner to the Vice President of Development and senior leadership in shaping and executing the Center’s major gifts fundraising strategy.
  • Work closely with the President and CEO, Chief Content and Learning Officer, Vice President of Development, and Trustees to advance high-level fundraising efforts.
  • Mentor and support colleagues in best practices for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Events and Stewardship:
  • Support major donor cultivation events and special gatherings across the country, from donor-led small dinners to offsite Board meetings (such as recent gatherings at the U.S. Supreme Court and Mt. Vernon), and the annual President’s Council Retreat, the Center’s premier gathering of thought leaders, historians, constitutional scholars, and donors.
  • Ensure exceptional stewardship practices that deepen donor engagement, demonstrate impact, and encourage renewed and increased support through in person visits, personal phone calls, written communications, and more.
• Data and Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed and timely donor and prospect records in Salesforce.
  • Monitor and report on portfolio activity, pipeline strength, solicitations, commitments, and progress toward individual and institutional fundraising goals for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.
• Minimum of 7–10 years of successful frontline fundraising experience, including securing multiple six- and seven-figure gifts.
• Demonstrated success building and managing donor pipelines at national or regional levels.
• Deep commitment to the National Constitution Center’s nonpartisan mission and enthusiasm for promoting civic education and civil dialogue.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills.
• Strategic, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with Salesforce or other major CRM platforms preferred.
• Ability to travel regionally and nationally for donor meetings and events, ramping up to 75% of time on the road.
• Residence in a major city with easy airport access to direct flights across the country.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $165,000–$205,000, commensurate with experience and cost of living in the candidate’s city of residence.
