The State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture & Biosecurity, Plant Industry Division has an urgent vacancy in Lihue. This position requires advanced pest control duties, potential overtime, and fieldwork with hazardous materials. Successful candidates must meet legal work requirements and pass the review process.

salary ranges from $3,606 to $4,563 per month, SR-11. Application review continues until filled, with selection and interview steps outlined by HRD.

Qualifications

THREE (3) years of progressively responsible work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; follow oral directions; and exercise a high degree of verbal skills.
TWO (2) years of work experience in insect or plant pest control involving the use of standard laboratory procedures in propagating host insects or plants and the collecting and recording of data.
Substitutions allowed as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, perform fairly complex sub-professional pest control duties and/or supervise pest control aides.
May be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays; may travel for work, training or meetings.
Work indoors in laboratory settings with hazardous chemicals; wear PPE and use microscopes and microtools for extended periods.
Occasionally work outdoors under various conditions and handle insects and related arthropods for identification and curation.
