Job summary

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) seeks a Principal Technical Consultant, Scientist to lead permitting and compliance for major electric transmission and renewable energy projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. You’ll shape project strategy, oversee regulatory submissions, and manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver on time and within budget.

You will apply federal and state regulatory knowledge, exercise strong technical writing, and build trusted client relationships while expanding

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in consulting or industry focused on power sector projects.
  • Permitting experience for transmission line projects in Virginia.
  • Experience with federal and state regulatory frameworks (VA/Mid-Atlantic).
  • Knowledge of Clean Water Act (Sections 401/404), Endangered Species Act (Section 7), NHPA (Section 106).
  • Strong technical writing, project management, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead permitting tasks for electric transmission lines and renewable energy projects.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, and progress reports.
  • Travel up to 20% for site visits and meetings.
  • Collaborate with ERM experts on impact assessments, routing studies, and facility siting.
  • Drive business development by leveraging client relationships.
