Job summary

First Tech Federal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Performance Test Engineer to define and execute performance engineering for Online and Mobile Banking applications, ensuring they meet scalability, reliability, and availability targets while supporting a superior member experience.

Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, architecture, and product teams to identify risks, establish benchmarks, and drive performance improvements throughout the SDLC.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in performance testing for high-volume apps.
• Hands-on with listed load testing tools.
• Strong SQL and performance analysis skills.
• Experience in financial services or fintech is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute load, stress, volume, endurance, and capacity tests for web, mobile, and API apps.
• Establish baselines, SLOs, and performance acceptance criteria.
• Create workload models simulating member behavior and production volumes.
• Analyze results to identify bottlenecks in apps, DB, and network.
• Collaborate with engineering to tune and optimize performance.
• Build automated performance testing frameworks for CI/CD.
• Monitor performance trends and recommend scalability improvements.
• Produce performance reports and executive summaries for stakeholders.
• Support release readiness with risk assessments and go/no-go decisions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to delivery teams.

Description

The Senior Performance Test Engineer defines and executes performance engineering practices for Online and Mobile Banking (OMB) applications and integrations, ensuring they meet performance, scalability, reliability, and availability requirements while supporting exceptional member experience. This role partners with engineering, architecture, DevOps, infrastructure, product, and vendor teams to identify risks, establish benchmarks, resolve bottlenecks, and improve performance throughout the software development lifecycle.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and execute load, stress, volume, endurance, and capacity tests for web, mobile, and API-based applications.
• Establish and maintain performance baselines, benchmarks, service level objectives (SLOs), and performance acceptance criteria.
• Create realistic workload models that simulate member behavior and production transaction volumes.
• Analyze performance test results and identify application, database, infrastructure, and network bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot, tune, and optimize system performance.
• Build and maintain automated performance testing frameworks and integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor application performance trends and provide recommendations to improve scalability, reliability, and resiliency.
• Produce performance test reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for stakeholders and leadership.
• Support release readiness activities by providing performance risk assessments and go/no-go recommendations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to delivery teams promoting best practices.

Essential Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in performance testing, performance engineering, or quality engineering for high-volume web, mobile, API, or distributed applications.
• Hands-on experience with tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, BlazeMeter, Gatling, or k6.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, database performance analysis, Agile delivery, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to varied audiences.
• Hands-on experience supporting release planning, production issue resolution, and root-cause analysis to minimize business impact and maintain platform stability.
• Experience in financial services, fintech, online banking, or mobile banking, including SaaS or vendor-hosted platforms.
• Experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, or New Relic.
• Experience with cloud platforms and modern architectures, including microservices and APIs.
• Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Target Compensation:

Oregon + Massachusetts: $105k - $125k annually + annual bonus

Rocklin, CA: $115k - $137k annually + annual bonus

San Jose, CA: $132k - $156k annually + annual bonus
