Job summary

Shield AI is seeking an engineer to bring AI research into autonomous systems that operate in the real world. You will work on multimodal vision, visual foundation models, and embodied AI for autonomous aircraft and vehicles.

You’ll evaluate approaches, build prototypes, and drive successful ideas into the Hivemind product, balancing learned methods with classical perception techniques while addressing sensor, software, and compute challenges at the edge.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research and hands-on engineering in CV/ML/robotics.
• Research depth in multimodal vision, visual foundation models, or embodied learning.
• Strong Python skills and experience with PyTorch.
• Experience building substantial research software and production-quality C++.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate emerging models against sensor data and autonomy needs.
• Build prototypes and experiments to reveal strengths and deployment opportunities.
• Combine learned and classical approaches for detection, tracking, and sensor fusion.
• Optimize and integrate capabilities for edge deployment with Python and C++.
• Help deliver tested, documented capabilities and support adoption by other teams.
