Job summary

Ideal candidates should possess a BS in Electrical Engineering and have at least 5 years of relevant experience. Strong communication skills and proficiency in PCB CAD tools are essential. The role includes responsibilities in coordination and evaluation of design processes.

Senior PCB Design Engineer

Location: San Diego Facility, San Diego, CA

Salary Range

$95,000.00 – $123,000.00 annually

Job Summary

The Senior PCB Design Engineer is responsible for design and development of new or modified products, supporting PCB layout and substrate/package design for advanced electronic products, ensuring signal integrity and manufacturability, and delivering complete documentation for prototype and production builds.

Responsibilities
  • Align with other engineers to ensure process development and qualification; present data on material, machines or process impacts in a variety of forums.
  • Coordinate and/or lead projects between lab, customer input, purchasing, prototype development and production, ensuring projects stay on task.
  • Participate in assessment, test and design review, create new designs and concepts to meet internal/external needs.
  • Evaluate and provide baseline recommendations for designs based on package costs and performance trade-off.
  • Perform experiments and analyze results of variables, collaborating with vendors, colleges or auditors.
  • Generate specific goals, prioritize workload and align actions with department goals.
  • Demonstrate strong presentation skills to ensure understanding and support of departmental projects.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of PCB or substructure/layout experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more PCB CAD tools (Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, Siemens Xpedition, or KiCad). AutoCAD/Inventor or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Preferred IPC CID/CID+ certification.
  • Experience with signal and power integrity fundamentals, simulation/analysis tools, high‑speed interfaces (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet) and IPC standards (IPC‑2221, IPC‑7351).
  • Working knowledge of basic electronics theory and circuit functionality for effective PCB layout decisions.
  • High‑speed routing and controlled impedance design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prepare advanced project reports.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel for data collection and graphical presentation.
  • Ability to work in a clean room environment and wear proper PPE.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced lab environment and meet deadlines.
  • Travel may be required up to 10%.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Physical Activities

The employee is continuously required to talk or hear; regularly required to stand, walk, sit; occasionally required to use hands. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Environmental Conditions

The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.
