Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Sr. PCB CAD Librarian to design schematic symbols, footprints, and parts in line with IPC, industry, and Viasat standards. You will build and maintain libraries, prioritize workload, and support internal customers across engineering groups.

Focus is on Siemens Xpedition EDM tools (EDM Library Cockpit and EDM Librarian), IPC-7351 knowledge, and the ability to read datasheets. Occasional collaboration with other departments and travel <10% are required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of direct experience and expertise in library development.
• Highly proficient with Siemens Xpedition EDM library tools (e.g., EDM Library Cockpit and EDM Librarian)
• Deep understanding of IPC-7351 specifications.
• Able to read and understand component datasheets.
• Ability to use IPC, Industry, and Viasat standards to develop schematic symbols and footprints accordingly.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
• Full understanding of interactions with Functional Support Groups (e.g., Component Engineering, Electrical Engineering, PCB CAD Design).
• Demonstrate the ability to continually learn new technologies and processes.
• Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve and resolve issues through change control or other methods.
• Ability to travel <10%

The day-to-day

As a Sr. PCB CAD Librarian, you will provide support to our internal customers by creating schematic symbols, footprints, and parts that adhere to IPC, industry, and Viasat standards. You will also provide support internal to the library team by validating library parts and ensuring they are in compliance with company standards. You may be required to work directly with other engineering departments regarding parts that are Viasat proprietary.

What you will need

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• 8+ years of direct experience and expertise in library development.
• Highly proficient with Siemens Xpedition EDM library tools (e.g., EDM Library Cockpit and EDM Librarian)
• Deep understanding of IPC-7351 specifications.
• Able to read and understand component datasheets.
• An ability to use various standards (IPC, Industry, and Viasat) and methods to develop schematic symbols and footprints accordingly.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
• Have a full understanding of the interactions required with functional support groups (e.g., Component Engineering, Electrical Engineering, PCB CAD Design, etc.)
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to continually learn new technologies and processes.
• Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve and resolve issues through change control or other methods.
• Ability to travel <10%

What will help you on the job

• Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD is a plus.
• Experience working in Jira.
• Agile and/or PLM experience
• Strong written communication skills
• Technical degree or equivalent experience.

Salary range

$99,500.00 - $157,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $123,500.00- $185,500.00/ annually
